Heya all,

I was wondering if you could help me figure something out. I dont want to panic, but with my cat Emma, I always do. She has a small round scab (looks like it) on the area of her head between her eye and her ear where the hair is a little thinner on both sides.

It has been there for about 3 weeks. At first I thought she got it play fighting with her brother. It seemed to start to heal up and brown over, but not long after, it seemed to be open again and irritated.

I figured just another catfight opened it.

I let it go and it started to heal up again. Yesterday night, it didnt seem to be opened, but it looked redder than usual and possibly irritated.

It doesnt look like it causes her any discomfort.

I looked all over the web and found nothing but possible Allergies, maybe ringworm, and possibly (and hopefully not) squamous cell carcinoma.

I'm going to bring her to the vet within the next 3 days.

Does anyone think that after 3 weeks her scab should be gone? Healed over that is?

As for squamous cell carcinoma . . . anything I should look for?

Thanks,
Joe

Maybe a tck? Only a biospy can say if it is ringworm or squamous cell carcinoma

Hope all turns out OK.

sounds like ringworm.. but i suggest takin ur kitty to the vet to have it checked out.. if it is ringworm then some baths and cream shud clear it up! good luck!:agree:

My aunt's cat, SAM, has had this place right above his nose that he keeps having to get treated for- the vet knocks the scab off of it every week adn they go back to putting this anti-fungal stuff on it- not ringworm, but some simular fungus. He's had it a couple of months now, it is shrinking slowly.

There is two things about cats and stratches you should know before you freak out:

1) there skin is so thin and stretchy that even the smallest scratches can pull apart more

2) head scratches even on people are always slow to heal because we pick at them.

Chances are that while grooming she pickes at it or her brother picks at it. If you do go to the vets I bet they will just give her a little hood so that she can't reach around and groom it. If you are still worried about more serious things like ringworm and what not than run to the Vets but being a person who has to look at realistic money matters of which comes first the scare of a cut with a possible 150 dollar vet bill or the paying the bill to keep a roof over my head I would just give all my cats a warm bath with a mild soap and watch the cut, if it got worse after the bath than I would go to the Vet.
