That makes me want a pond for my koi more than ever now. Nice plants!
How much did it cost all together? I really want to make one.

I'm Not Sure How Much It Cost But It Wasn't That Much Because The Only Thing We Bought Was The Pond Liner.

There Is 22 Goldfish In There Now, I'm Not Sure How Big It Is But It Is Pretty Big We Could But Heaps More Then 22 Goldfish In There.

Well, I might be wrong without measurements, but that pond does not look nearly big enough to support 22 goldfish. Each fish has the potential to grow to a foot long...that's 22' of fish.

Steph, any way you can photograph right above the water so we can see the fishes? :D

could you measure it by any chance? ( length and width) does the pond have a filter? 22 goldfish will produce an astronomical amount of waste:eek: .
Dont get me wrong it's a nice pond and it looks good, but when i look at the pictures, i notice there is some sort of garden lamp near it? perhaps solar powered? if it is then by checking the size of the pond against the size of the lamp( those lamps are about 2-3 feet high, i have one in my garden)........it doesnt look very big at all. certainly not big enough for 22 goldfish! ( they may be small now, but as mg said, if each fish has a total size capacity of a foot long, thats 22 potential feet of fish! theres no way that pond is 22 feet long and wide. it looks to me to be about five to six feet long. am i close?
of course it could just be the angle of the picture.....
hmmmm.can you take a few more pictures? perhaps get someone to lie down next to it to compare the size?

sorry to be a pain but unless i really am looking at it wrong that pond( nice as it is) really doesnt look big enough at all. the depth isnt as important as the surface area, and thats what we need to know.thanx

Well I Got Some Pictures Right Above The Water And I Tried To Measure It, The Length Is About 8 Feet And It Is About 3 1/2 Feet Wide.

mr gerbil

I'm getting 600 gallons. It's still too small for 22 goldfish, though. What filter are you using?

honeythorn
07-17-06, 10:54 AM 07-17-06
i agree. far too small . sorry to say it . if it was me i'd have stuck with four, it's better for the fish, and gives them plenty of growing room.( remember they grow to be 12 inches long each! you are going to need 22 feet of pondspace for 22 fish!)

also, it's better to put marginal pond plants and bog plants around the edges ( in the water obviously) to hide the liner, with the exception of the waterlily ( by the way waterlilies can become invasive and clog up the pond, they'll need to be cut back if they grow out of control).

i really would take most of those fish back, eight feet is not nearly enough room for 22 goldfish ( they look like comets am i correct? they really do get large!)

Do you actually know anything about fish?

As you seem to have qualified yourself as an authority on the subject, please explain to us the nitrogen cycle, issues regarding stunting, control of nitrates and their relative relationship with phosphates and algae, oxygen diffusion, feeding schedules, and anything else you might think helpful. I'm awaiting a reply with interest.

07-18-06, 11:29 AM 07-18-06
Possibly stupid question, but, where did you get the depth of the pond to work out the precise gallonage. Through my own calculations I worked it with the length of 8x3.5x3 foot deep would give a gallonage of around 525 gallons, but that was only by guessing the depth at 3 feet although from the picture it didn't look that - although of course very hard to tell from a photo only, and unless i'm going blind (which I probably am!) but I didn't see any mention on the depth on any of the postings.
I have been working out pond sizes, filtration and pump systems needed for people for the last six years since working full time. I'd also like to point out that no i'm not the average store worker, having 14 years prior experience keeping a wide variety of fish, and working with koi specialists for a number of years! Not to blow my own trumpet, but not letting anyone put me down either :p
I would agree with everyone that the pond is overstocked for it's size, as a comparison my 4,000 gallon pond has 18 fish in it only, this excludes the gallonage held in it's large external filtration system.

07-18-06, 11:36 AM 07-18-06

Cottontail
07-18-06, 02:13 PM 07-18-06
Really? What happened?

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 02:16 PM 07-18-06
Well...there was white flame and lots of smoke. And police sirens in the background (that really scared me).
I'll post the video if you're interested.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 02:18 PM 07-18-06
Sure. I may not get it downloaded tonight, but I'll try.
Why ever would the sirens scare you? :p

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 02:22 PM 07-18-06
Why would the sirens scare me? Because I'm setting off illegal pyrotechnic devices!

Cottontail
07-18-06, 02:23 PM 07-18-06
So they are illegal...why send smoke signals at night then? :p

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 02:27 PM 07-18-06
Because the flare looks so much nicer! I'll reduce the video quality so it's fairly small. In the meantime,

Dang! That's awesome :D. Is that a water hose in the bottom right? I can see why you'd have that handy.

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 02:32 PM 07-18-06
That's the best part of it. Actually, the hose isn't even connected to a water supply. But the pond is right next to (or probably in) the flare!

Cottontail
07-18-06, 02:34 PM 07-18-06
lol. No fish in it, I hope?

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 02:39 PM 07-18-06
Not yet, although I don't suppose it would do them too much harm...

Cottontail

They might actually enjoy the show :D.

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 02:46 PM 07-18-06
LOL, yes! They would have already had to put up with this one:

I nearly didn't manage  .

Cottontail
07-18-06, 02:56 PM 07-18-06

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 02:58 PM 07-18-06
My mum is blissfully unaware. She thinks I stopped doing it a while back. My dad doesn't really care . (I feel like I'm 7 now :D )

Here's the video:

http://www.mysharefile.com/v/4160310/nicetry....wmv.html

The quality's fairly poor though.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:02 PM 07-18-06
Thanks! It says it'll be done in less than 2 minutes. The quality should be fine, it's the effect that matters :D.

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 03:03 PM 07-18-06
Well, it doesn't do it justice. You can't see the daylight effect, and the audio sounds like ET phoning home  .

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:09 PM 07-18-06
I'm downloading again. It came up on media player and I could only hear it. What is with you and ET?

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 03:12 PM 07-18-06
You're the one who keeps mentioning him! (or should that be 'it'?)

If the video isn't playing, that's probably a codec problem *switches to computer geek personality*. You'll need to download a new one. And don't ask me how to do that.

I'd convert it to another format but I don't think I've got the software. Hang on a sec.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:13 PM 07-18-06
Yeah, it mentioned that...codec thingy. Now it's just not working all together. I'll try again!

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 03:16 PM 07-18-06
If it's not working now, it's probably just not going to. Stupid computer.
One option is to download Real Player, that plays just about anything. I think it's about a 10MB download, which unfortunately would take about an hour on dialup.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:17 PM 07-18-06
Yeah *sigh*. Well, I'll try one more time. I should have downloaded that blasted codec.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:20 PM 07-18-06
Oh well. It's doing that cannot display routine. Well, it sounded interesting enough :D.

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 03:20 PM 07-18-06
Don't bother, without the codec it won't work. Give me a minute, I'm working on a solution at this end.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:28 PM 07-18-06
Thanks. Any luck?

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 03:31 PM 07-18-06
Success!

Here's the video:

http://www.mysharefile.com/v/2132802/nicetry....bik.html

If you still can't play it, download this:

http://www.radgametools.com/down/Bink/RADTools.exe

The quality is really, really bad. But the original file would have literally taken several days to download on dialup.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:33 PM 07-18-06
Thanks! I'm trying the first one now. You sure you're not giving me a virus or something? :p

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 03:36 PM 07-18-06
Not that I'm aware of. I've got anti-virus software on here, so it should be ok.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:40 PM 07-18-06
Right...

I'll try the second one...

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 03:41 PM 07-18-06
Don't give up hope! And if you feel frustrated, shout abuse at the computer. It helps :D .

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:48 PM 07-18-06
LOL! It's at 54%. Abuse wouldn't be good...my dad is in the other room :D.

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 03:52 PM 07-18-06
Lol...I guess that you're not really the type of person to take a sledgehammer to electronic equipment that's annoyed you. Now that really is fun (and I'm speaking from experience).

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:54 PM 07-18-06
Oh no. I'd love to do that. But then I'd just end up with another piece of crap. And have less money in the process :D.

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 03:56 PM 07-18-06
I've only done it once, with stuff that had broken. And it wasn't even mine, it was school property :D . Quite a few of us enjoyed that...

Cottontail
07-18-06, 03:59 PM 07-18-06
Would that be part of the reasons you are no longer there? :p

It worked!! That was actually very good :D. Thanks! Did you use a video phone?

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 04:03 PM 07-18-06
"Would that be part of the reasons you are no longer there? "

No...my housemaster actually invited us to do it! He was into that kind of thing.

I used a camcorder :D...I told you that I had reduced the quality a lot.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 04:04 PM 07-18-06
Sounds like a fun person.
It was still good. I could see everything fine.

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 04:06 PM 07-18-06
"Sounds like a fun person."

He was an unusual person. When he wasn't encouraging wanton destruction, he was preaching passages from the Old Testament.

Cottontail
07-18-06, 04:09 PM 07-18-06
Interesting. Atleast ya got to smash the thing ;).

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 04:12 PM 07-18-06
lol, yes. That was f u n. Entertaining my primal instincts :D .

Cottontail
07-18-06, 04:14 PM 07-18-06
mmhmm Maybe we aren't on the same planet. Well, then again, Dial-up has only seemed to curse the populous of Earth.

Did you use a wooden club? lol

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 04:18 PM 07-18-06
Dialup is an evil, wicked thing. Looking back, I find it hard to imagine how I ever managed with it.

Wooden clubs weren't on the agenda that day. Just the sledgehammer...and feet. And other peoples' heads (jk, jk).

Cottontail
07-18-06, 04:21 PM 07-18-06
Yes, hopefully some day I can look back on dial-up.

lol, somehow I don't believe you're kidding. Been a shame if one of those sharp, painful objects found a way through your shoe.

Shellie
07-18-06, 04:23 PM 07-18-06
Me, you, Cat, honeythorn, mynoven, and possibly Shellie are all fairly crazy. Sorry if I've left anyone out...

I'm not only certifiable, I have a certificate to prove it! ;)

Cottontail
07-18-06, 04:26 PM 07-18-06
That's ok, we still love ya Shellie :D.

mr gerbil
07-18-06, 04:26 PM 07-18-06
lol, I probably need my own head examined.

What sharp painful objects are you referring to?

Cottontail
07-18-06, 04:29 PM 07-18-06
Metal, glass, the mother board. The usual ones in a computer. :p

mr gerbil
07-19-06, 02:33 AM 07-19-06
"Metal, glass, the mother board. The usual ones in a computer. "

It was actually 2 TVs and a washing machine :D .

Cottontail
07-19-06, 03:43 AM 07-19-06
Ok then. Metal, glass, screws, really stiff socks. :p

Chelle, I'm sorry I didn't reply to your question! I completely forgot :(. I didn't mean to be rude.

The formula I used, I got off a website, because I was going to build a pond of my own. If you have a better method, I'd like to know what it is. Save some trouble in the future :). I was assuming her pond was about 4 feet deep. Looks to be less though...

Anyway, it's: LxWxDx7.48

If you don't seem to see my reply here, I'll post the formula on Revenge. All the pages might deter you, lol.

mr gerbil
07-19-06, 04:08 AM 07-19-06
" Metal, glass, screws, really stiff socks"

Yep. Smashing the glass panel of a TV does tend to send glass dust everywhere...
