Ooo! I love it when foals have markings on their foreheads because it is fun to name them after what the mark looks like. With our davenport arabs and appoloosas it happens a lot so some of our horses had weird names like comma and stars. I love the buckskin mare! She is so cute! What is the fillies name?

The fillies name is Something In Red. She is registered with the harness racing society. We call her Little Missy for short though. (yea i know the names have nothing to do with each other, lol) My dad picked the registered name and my son picked the other name.
The other mare is actually a light bay color. The sun was shining on her and thats why she looks even lighter. The fillies mother is technically brown, but is really dark and looks more black than brown.

The light bay mare looked buckskin in the light. Do you have show horses or like racing horses? I have show horses but they havnt been shown in a long long time. We only have one brood mare right now.
The fillies mother does look black in the pictures. Why wouldnt she be listed as black instead of brown. I guess you have to be picky when it comes to black.

Yea, the way the sun was shining on her she looked buckskin. They are picky about the difference between dark brown and black when it comes to the coloring. She looks black but when you are right by her you can tell its a really really dark brown and not a true black.
We just have 2 brood mares that my dad breeds for harness racing. We have never shown horses. Actually I have never ridden a horse, ours are not broke for riding. That is because with harness racing they use the carts on the horses so they don't need to be broke to ride. My pap used to race and my dad did, but now he just has the brood mares. I have been to the races with my dad before to help out.

I dont ride either. We show halter horses. I dont even know how to ride, well I know the basics but thats it. We have kind of stopped with horse for the time being until we move out of the city and buy a farm again. They are at our step grandparents house now, temperarly.
Is harness racing like with a cart or something? I've heard of it, but I dont really know what it is.

Woah!! That looks fun! Have you guys ever won?

yea a few times, more losses than wins though, lol. with something like that you do it more for the fun then the money, unless you can afford to buy an really expensive horse to race, then its for the money. they can sell for more than $100,000 at the sales.

Oh, I know what you mean about expensive horses! One of our moms best horse friends had a world champion apploosa and people where offering around 90 to 100 thousand for him! We got one of his babies, but then gave him to our moms friend because the world champ had died because he was N/H and his heart quite i think.
I think racing it way more exciting than halter showing. All they do is stand there and make the horse look pretty.

Your lucky that your parents will LET you get your own horse. Every time i got a horse, it was a show horse and later it would be sold. It was really sad.

that is sad. i can have my own horse as long as i pay for it, take care of it, and pay for its food and stuff.

You also live on a farm with land. I live in the suberbs, so it dosnt really work. :( They have a law about animals with hooves. I could get a miniture horse and keep it in my closet...
