It might be the pet store you have been getting them from. I really don't know. :(

you didn't get them from Petsmart did you? i used to buy parakeets from them, and all of them each lasted barely a month before they'd die. i got a parakeet from elsewhere in may, and it's still alive. petstores generally get from the same breeder/bird factories, and the symptoms can be passed along..

It was a local pet store. No petsmart, petco deal here. Small shop who i trust for all my pets, but the way its looking now, i think they might loose my business for good..:(

If you got them both from the same place its fairly easy for diseases to pass around. Or if you put it in the old ones cage without bleaching cage and rinsing well also possible to contract it from that or any of old supplies that you have. Best to see an avian vet and find out what the disease is and report it to the authorities. Diseases in birds are taken pretty seriously due to how contagious they are.

yeah... cage should have been completely bleached and scrubbed and boil washed...
could it be somthing in your house? birds biggest weakness is respitory problems... your cleaner... polish... room fragrance... scented bedding you use for a different animal... perfumed things are generally bad...especially with young birds.... even your body spray could do it...
although i find it a little odd as lovebirds are usually very hardy birds... very little seems to upset mine...
ok
what are droppings like? right colour / consisatncy... they arent really runny or green or anything? is bird bobbing tail... tail bobbing is sign or respitory distress.
have birds got wet? could this be a cold? does anyone in your family have a cold?
is bird near kitchen?
Once vet has ruled out illness ...
Check your environment for anything with a strong smell... and then remove it... if bird becomes listless, droppings change, starts tail bobbing consider it an emergency.

i just noticed that the petstore managed to get tango healthy again... ring them and ask what they did and what it was... it sounds like they are a very good store... most would let animal die as it's not worth as much as the vet bill....
Find out what was wrong with tnago and you might learn whats wrong with new baby
good luck x

i hit my head to the pillow last night and almost started cursing out loud for like 10 minutes...i didn't bleach the cage:eek: i just boiled it with water...son of a !@#$%^!! from what i remember, the vet had the bird under a heat light and given mild antibiotics...so it must be able to cure...now i must find some money to pay for a vet bill...i think i could have prevented this. :( i wanna cry now...

Boiling is good but bleach would do a much more thorough job. Also did you do all your toys/bowls etc.? I would do normal cleanings with boiling water but every so often its good to use a disenfectant. 1/2 cup of bleach to gallon of water, soak cage for 5 minutes (it must be thoroughly cleaned first eitherwise bleaching will not work properly) then rinse with lots of water to remove all traces of bleach :)
Mistakes happen.. the best things we can do is learn from them :) Antibiotics shouldn't be to expensive and very soon you'll hopefully have a nice healthy birdie again!

yes, i did all toys, grates, everything i could think of. So when i'm doing toys and other things i should just boil water? How often should i bleach things then?

I'd bleach them first as you've got the new bird.. it is also sometimes possible to reinfect birds if whatever is causing the sickness is in the environment still.. I bleached stuff every couple of months (I did a weekly clean).

bird has a cold believe it or not and 200.00 later, ive got to give it medication in its nostrils to flush for 20 days...but i want my lovebird so badly that i'm willing to do it, the other option was to bring the lovebird back and not have at all...so hopefully all goes well.
