1.do you believe that anyone acquiring a dog from another person or organization should be screened in depth to determine if that person or persons will be a proper home/owner for the dog? Yes.
2. where you or the person/s acquiring YOUR DOG screened? No, we bought her from a byb before I knew any better (7 yrs ago)
3. Have you ever been screened before? No
4. If so, have you ever been turned down? N/A
5. would you screen anyone (in depth) that you turned a dog over to for various reasons? Yes, I would use a shelter or breeder questionare as a guideline
6. have you ever screened someone for dog placement before? No
The only other dog before Ranger that we had was an Australean Shepherd that bit a few people in the neighborhood (nipped is more like it) and then me. Now I know exactly why she did what she did but I was way too young to understand any of it and my parents had no clue. She ended up moving from home to home until we found out that someone abandoned her. But she was rescued by a person who lived in that area who called us to tell us what happened. I'm pretty sure that was her final home.

Just had to add (dumb 5 min edit time!) that I do know how to spell "Australian". Also, I can't remember if the Aussie breeder screened my parents or not but it's unlikely. I can't imagine putting such a smart working dog in a pet only home with no outlet for her energy or intelligence.

1. Yes I do believe potential new homes should be screened. However I do think that some people are a little too hard nosed with their screenings.
2. Not really we got our dog through my mom who rescued him in from the woods. But we had lots of long conversations about all kinds of dog situations before I decided to bring the dog home.
3. This is the first dog I've had on my own so not personally. When we got our Great Dane from a breeder our family was screened.
4. N/A
5. Yes most definitely. Even if I had to turn them over to a rescue, I would do my best to screen the rescue. I'd most likely want to do a home visit too, check for fenced yard and if they have other dogs to see their overall condition.
6. No I've never had to do that.

1. Absolutely. It is not the screening process that I have problems with, it is the condescending way that some rescues treat people just for having different beliefs than their own.
2. Is that supposed to be were? :) Yes, with both of my dogs, but one was much more indepth than the other.
3. yes.
4. No.
5. Yes I would, but I cannot see any curcumstances where I would have to get rid of my dogs, ever. I'd get rid of my hubby first..just kidding, for the most part.
6. No. I do work with rescues, but I mostly do transports. I would absolutely love to foster. If I could just talk my hubby into it...

Yes I do believe in screening homes.
Yes I have been screened before. Years ago when trying to adopt from the local SPCA. I was turned down because they said I was too young (I think I was 20 or 21 at the time). Then I almost adopted a dog from the pound....I was signing the papers when my friend (for some unknown reason) flipped over the dog's cage card and saw that the dog was surrendered for killing a cat. No one at the shelter bothered to mention that to me and I had several cats at that time. THAT is why I ended up buying my first dog from a byb.
I foster dogs all the time. If I don't already know the adopter, I require 2 home checks (one before adopting and one 6 months after), an application, and a fee to cover medical costs. Also, require signed contract that the dog NEVER be euthanized for a non-medical reason or turned over to a shelter or rescue group. It MUST be returned to me.

1. do you believe that anyone acquiring a dog from another person or organization should be screened in depth to determine if that person or persons will be a proper home/owner for the dog? YES!!
2. where you or the person/s acquiring YOUR DOG screened? Well, alot of my dogs came off the street..and some even came from bybs.. so I can say, no.. I wasn't screened for alot of the dogs.
3. Have you ever been screened before?Yes, just with two of my dogs!! (most of the dachshunds are related.)
4. If so, have you ever been turned down?YES.. once at a Feline Rescue because the cats would be allowed outside, so they said no.
5. would you screen anyone (in depth) that you turned a dog over to for various reasons? I have already screened like crazy for the litter of kittens I have.
6. have you ever screened someone for dog placement before? Yes!

1. do you believe that anyone acquiring a dog from another person or organization should be screened in depth to determine if that person or persons will be a proper home/owner for the dog? I believe in most cases that a breeder should screen the adopter & the home. To make sure that the dog will fit into the family's lifestyle and to make sure that they are going to be a good owner.
2. where you or the person/s acquiring YOUR DOG screened? Yes, I was screened when I adopted both of my dogs from the breeder.
3. Have you ever been screened before? Yes, when I adopted Diamond & Yukon
4. If so, have you ever been turned down? Nope
5. would you screen anyone (in depth) that you turned a dog over to for various reasons? Yes..
6. have you ever screened someone for dog placement before? No, I don't breed and ive never had to re-home any of my dogs.

1. do you believe that anyone acquiring a dog from another person or organization should be screened in depth to determine if that person or persons will be a proper home/owner for the dog?
Yup! I've yet to work with a rescue that I felt were too hard on screening. I can't say the same about the humane society here though, they're extremely strict to a point I don't agree with.
2. where you or the person/s acquiring YOUR DOG screened?
Sort of, I suppose. The shelter we got them from wern't very strict at all, all we did was fill out an application.
3. Have you ever been screened before?
Yes
4. If so, have you ever been turned down?
Yes, like I said the HS here is very strict, and they won't adopt pit bulls out to homes with other dogs, regardless if the adopter was willing to keep the dogs seperate 24 hours a day (I was). Because of this, the dog I was trying to save and foster (he had a home in NY) was euthanized.
5. would you screen anyone (in depth) that you turned a dog over to for various reasons?
Definately, if they wern't willing to go through screening, they don't need one of my dogs.
6. have you ever screened someone for dog placement before?
No, but I've screened for rescue kittens and foster gerbils.

And just because I own a BC and wouldn,t agree to feed only RAW why would"nt that heavily biased screening Sheltie breeder sell me a pup? I have been turned down several times by those hard as###D breeders.....
I do not think I have met a vicious Dalmation, I am sure however there are a few out there somewhere....

My vet used to draw straws with the other vets about who had to treat the dals. I've met some nasty ones. My first one was wonderful, but did have an edge to him. Calvin, the one we have now, is nothing but a lovebug, and one of the few dogs i would ever 100% trust around a child. He's been kicked, stepped on everywhere, tail and ears pulled, ridden, licked, dragged around, toys taken, food taken, pretty much everything you can do to a dog, and he's never growled, showed teeth, anything. He takes it all in stride and wags his tail. I don't think there's a mean bone in his body. Wonderful with other dogs, although slightly aloof, but would never attack, bite, etc. Not the brightest bulb in the world, but he's a sweetie. It took him 3 tries to get through puppy kindergarden, but he can sit, come and down reliably and i think thats the extent to his training. I was rather shocked to here a shelter be so discriminatory and insist dals were vicious. The sad thing is that the corgi i went to look at had some serious issues, very shy, unsocialized and had aggression issues. As of today, he was still up for adoption.

1. do you believe that anyone acquiring a dog from another person or organization should be screened in depth to determine if that person or persons will be a proper home/owner for the dog?
Yeah, but i mean. Not insanely. I think the way they do it at the shelter i volunteer for has a nixe system that works well. They have the people fill out a form that asks a lot of questions seeing how they would be as a dog owner, and then then they will talk to the possible adopters for a little. And if everything is fine, they adopt. If they have the smallest concern, its a no. And then they call them a few days later and see how everything has been working out for them.
2. where you or the person/s acquiring YOUR DOG screened?
Abby- Not that i can remember. We got her at a shelter that IMO isnt too concerned about the dogs new home, but also that was a long time ago and im going by stories i have heard
Monty- i got him with the shelter i volunteer with, and i had been with them for almost 2 years, so they knew me well enough..
3. Have you ever been screened before? sure i guess.
4. If so, have you ever been turned down? nope
5. would you screen anyone (in depth) that you turned a dog over to for various reasons? Of course, but it shouldnt ever come to that day.
6. have you ever screened someone for dog placement before? Well.. when the shelter does dog adoptions at petsmart I talk to the people if they are interested in a dog, and ask many questions, if that counts?
