Lucy has been vomiting, and she had bloody, mucasy stools..so we took her to the vet. He weighed her, she is now 2.3 pounds! She was around 1.2 or something pounds when we first got her. I am really surprised, but she didn't nip at him, or show any aggresion what so ever. He thinks she is about 5-6 years old.

About her stools and vomiting. He gave her an injection of baytril and gave me an atibiotic which is..let me check the package..Albon susp. She did perk up a bit after the injection, she also screamed like she was dying when he gave it to her...but she didn't try to bite him!! They even had a muzzle ready.

Anyway, she is doing good, and I hope she gets better!!

But exactly what was wrong with her?

You know..I have no clue. I don't really like going to this vet, he speaks english, but I can't understand what he is saying.. he has a really strong accent. The vet. tech told my mom though what was wrong.

I guess some kind of infection.

Its pretty serious to be pooping out blood. There are a variety of things, and i can't think of one thats good. Please get a second opinion, bloody stools are never good. Has she been wormed lately?

i would definately want to know for sure what was wrong and research it to find out if there is anything else you can do for her.

how long was she sick before you took her to the vet?

She was sick since last night, and we made an appointment as soon as we could..

If she does not improve, we will definatly take her to another vet... the vet we like is on maternity leave, but we will probably take her to her office, and use the vet over there.

I got those treats in the mail a few days ago..and she has been eating them like crazy. She does chew, and she doesn't like the greenies.. she was eating alot of the smart busciuts..but I think it could have to do with that, I am not sure. But we will definatly get a second opinion.

Well antibiotics work pretty darn quick so if you don't notice an improvement in at the latest 12 hours (I don't mean cured, but less discomfort and a better attitude) I'd be sure to get a second opinion.

She has already perked up! She is walking around and wagging her tail.. before she would sit on the couch, and sleep.

She hasn't gone to the bathroom yet, but she is drinking water! And she wouldn't eat yet.. but I will try again later.

Bloody stools can mean anything to a severe infestation of worms, to a tear in her intenstional lining, stomach, etc., ulcers, cancers, you name it. If she won't eat today, or has any sort of bloody stools, she needs to see an experienced vet that you understand :). If she is normally a good eater, and she turned down food today, I would see a vet. If she has the tendancy to not be such a good eater, watch her, but make sure she is getting enough to eat. Baytril wipes out everything in a dog's system, good and bad bacteria, and can supress appetite, which isn't good for a dog trying to gain strength.

She ate! I bought her some mighty dog cans last night because she was very interested in my sandwhich, and she ate it!

She has always been a very picky eater....but she loves mighty dog.

I was thinking it could have been the treats.. she did go crazy over them. And then I was thinking what you said ineil, about her intestinal tract..I am definatly going to the emergency vet if she has bloody stools again.

I think I put in the first post on this thread that she weighed in at 2.3 pounds, and was around 1.5 or less when we got her.

She has beefed up alot since the pictures! You can't see the ribs anymore, and her coat is soo much shinier! I need to get some updated pictures. Her attitude towards people has changed dramatically also.

Update:

Lucy has recovered and just finished her antibiotics. She stopped having the bloody stools the first day of antibiotics. She has beefed up alot this past couple of weeks.. I notice a big difference. She has also gotten soo playful. For the first time, she actually played with my other dogs. Usually she gets very happy and playful with me, but she never played with the dogs.

I will get some recent pictures if I can, its hard to take pictures of her.

Thats really good that she's better. She could have just irritated her intestinal tract or stomach with something. Is it possible she ate something, like sticks or bone or anything?

Well, she did eat a bunch of the free treats I got from the greenies company. She ate about 2 of those Peanutz, and a bunch of the cookies..So I think she did irritate her stomach.

Here are two pictures I got right now:

The pictures suck I know. You can sort of see the weight gain. You can't see her spine or ribs anymore!

And just a cute picture of Harry, Lucy, Jannah, and my moms dachshund pillow :)

Cute pics, she's get chubby! Greenies do have a tendancy to irritate the stomach and intestines, so I guess no more for her :(
