My oldest dog passed away on Friday. My father found him in the back yard, positioned just as if he were sleeping. He said Rembrandt looked very peaceful, as if he had just layed down for a nap and never woke up. I'm thankful for that.

He was almost 17 years old. He was the most adorable little buff cocker spaniel. (The calmest most lazy cocker spaniel in the world, lol...) I know he had a full life, with lots of love and caring. It's strange, I'm not unbearably sad or heartbroken... I guess I just knew his time was coming. But I do miss him!

I'm very sorry, too. :(:(:( But he's in doggy heaven and that certainly is a very good place to be! :)

=(
I'm sorry.

Two years ago, my step-grandparents' sheltie, Jordie, died of a heat attack. He was only 13 years old.

Other than that, I've never had a dog that belonged to me die in my life, partly because I'm only 13 (almost 14), and because when we were moving from the country to the suburbs, we had to leave two very old great paraneses (sp??) at the farm, give our Aussie, Joey to the neigbors (they bonded during the ice storm, and the family had two small kids who absolutely adored him), and we gave Cinnamon (very calm, sweet, gentle dog) away to another great home with kids since she tried several attempts of escaping from the fenced back yard... So I've never really experienced the grief.

I am soo sorry to hear about your loss!! I know what it feels like, luckily his went painlessly! He was adorable by the way!

(I had 2 killed by another dog, then the one that killed the two put to sleep, then my 13 year old dachshund died of many problems!!)
