I am so confused about how much food to feed felix. I feed him twice, once in the morning and once at night. But i try not to give him alot cuz hes not a big cat. Hes only around 6-7 months old now. Anyways we feed him dry food and once or twice a week we feed him the wet kind....fancy feast to be exact. He LOVES it lol. Anyways i cleaned a can after feeding and i use that for measuring. So he gets 2 cans a day. One in the morning and one at night. Should i be feeding him more? Whatever amount of food i feed him he sits there and eats until its gone. And i had a fat cat before and he died at 7 years of age. I don't want felix to get fat, but i dont want him to go hungry either. And when theres no food in his dish he meows and meows at me. How much should i be feeding him, or is what im doing good? Thanks! :)

Here what I do, and my mom did for 15-20 years before me.

Right away in the A.M. the cats would get 1/4 cup of dry food, with a tablespoon of wet on top.

All day they can nibble on the dry food

In the P.M. they would get another tablespoon of wet food.

Because of my kittens now I am thinking of changing cuz one of them (Bandit) doesn't like the dry food and I don't think he is getting enough food in him. When I got the kittens he was the biggest one, and lately Smokey, has been getting noticably bigger.

But until recently it has worked great!

Hope this helps.

Kismet is a complete and total pig, so we don't leave food out. She'll even eat the dogs food if they don't finish. She gets 1/8 of a cup of dry food and a table spoon, which is about 1/8 of the medium sized cans (sorry, the amounts in the cans are escaping me right now) twice a day, and she finishes it all. I should let you know, canned food is much better for cats, Kizzy would be on an all canned diet but it doesn't seem to fill her up which is why we mix dry in it. And Fancy Feast is a very crappy food, if you think he's to thin, try switching to a good quality food before you increase the amount. You'll end up spending the same amount of money, since the higher quality the food the less the cat eats, (higher quality foods have more meat protein, less grains. Cats can't digest grains or vegetables so its just filler, and you have to feed way more for the cat to get the right amount of digestible food) even though the initial price may look a little more expensive. I've noticed a lot less litter box waste now too, after we switched from Nutrience to Natural Balance.

well as of right now we cant afford anything more expensive. In fact i had to beg my hubby to even let me get some wet food. Cuz he doesnt wanna feed felix any of the wet but i talked him into it. Felix is not skinny at all. Hes very much chubby. Not to bad but no hes not skinny. But he will sit there and eat and eat and eat if you let him. I just didnt know if i wasnt feeding him enough or if he was just being a piggie lol

My cats only get 1/2 dry each a day, they never eat all their food at once. I use to give 1 cup each a day but Loki started getting pretty chubby.
