I like English because you can jump, but you might like western for the barrel racing.
Good luck with the lessons!

Jumping is DA BEST!!! I love it!:D anyways I had my lesson today and we had a new teacher, who gave us a different jump(double) it looked pretty scary, but I did it, its awesome! :agree:

COOL!!!!! I haven't done a double, or did you mean an oxer. I did 2 jumps in front of each other, but I think that was called a popover. they have one canter stride in between. I tried a roll-top once and I almost FELL OFF! It was I think 2 feet when I was just learning on 12"!!! That's ok, I think I could do it now in a snap. What have you been doing lately?
Oh! Guys, wish me luck, I have a show on saturday, and would you believe it, they have a short stirrup class of WALK. !!!! I am only doing W/T, W/T/C and O/F. SOOO excited!!!
talk soon!

Good for you lovechick!

Believe it or not, once the height gets over 2' it gets easier to feel when to do your two point.

what do you mean by easier to feel?

Jumping cross rails or low verticals you dont get that "off the ground" feeling you would with higher jumps. It can be difficult at times to judge when to do your two point jumping crossrails at a slow trot. Since your trying to look ahead to the next jump and not where your at on the current one, judging the beginning and end of two point can be hard for beginners.

I cant tell you how many times I had to catch myself doing two point too late, or staying in it too long after a jump in the middle of a combination.

i'm just learning how to ride western style
it's okay cuz i'm not planning to do any kind of showing or competing just yet (i need to know how to ride first)
so far i can get to a trot, but i can't keep at it long enough.
oh well, i need to practice more!

I personaly prefer western or aussie above all others because I like the comfort, securness, the beauty, the sports such as reining, barrels, cutting, roping, ect. + I dont really want to jump and in Kansas western outrules english about 10 to 1 and thats what my family has always prefered. Good luck w/the riding lessons.
Smile whoo!

that's great that you are getting back into lessons. lessons can do a world of good. the jumps with one canter stride in the middle is a gymnastics... they are really fun when you do it with six or seven jumps in a row.... i usually do it with the last jump is around 4 foot or so... that is probably the most fun that i have had.
