hi
i just took teddy out of his cage, and I probably have nothing to worry about..but it looks like right after his face (his 'shoulders' if you will) look extra ouffed out. so i examined him..besides that he looks normal and is acting normal. he is a syrian. i felt it and it just felt like his rib cage. it looks like his belly is kind of curved so i thought maybe he lost weight? well, maybe im just seeing things. i just need advice.

sorry, i cant post any pics right now..i dont have a a scanner. actually now that i think of it, i think its always been a little puffed out. it cant be bloating, because there are bones inside. and the fact that nothing else visually seems wrong and hes acting like his normal self. ill look into it tho, just incase.

Could it maybe be that his pouches are full?? My hammie has bumps on what looks like her shoulder area too sometimes but I think it's food in her pouches.

I was going to say, are you sure his cheek pouches aren't just full? :D
Their pouch extends from their cheeks to behind the shoulders.

if you really are a worrying owner (like me! lol) you might want to get a pair of decent kitchen scales... electric ones work best for me... i pop the dust bath bowl on them and reset, then put hammie in... i try to weigh her the same time everyday... that way you can check weight much more accurately... there are day's i'm convinced she's wasting away and really ill and i pop her on only to find she's as tubby as ever lol... i find it really reassuring.

hmm...thats a good idea, and yes I worry alot about my pets, lol. if teddy hasn't gotten out of bed at the same time he usually does or something i start to freak out lol. I figured the thing about his pouches being full was right, but i thougt it was just kind of weird because they were full for a LONG time, and he just kept on acting normally with them full. I dont know., ive had gerbils so far and they dont have pouches so at first when i saw him I was like huh?? lol

Probably the pouches. Pop-Tart leaves his full and empties them in his run-about ball and eats in there inbetween runs. It's hilarious.
I think the ham is alright. ^_^

lol. It's so amazing when you think about all of the abilities that animals have, and how they know how to use them.
