Is there any reason why hamsters sleep on their back?? I really dislike my mom yelling "I THINK PEANUT IS DEAD!!!!!!" when shes actually just sleeping funny :confused:
I dislike unnessecary scare moments a lot.

A hamster sleeps anyway it feels comfortable and just so you know and your mom knows generally when hamster died they curl into a ball. So sleeping on his back is just funny but when they curl into a ball and arent moving or breathing thats when you worry. Also you can always check for signs of breathing without disturbing the hammie well sleeping, just look at is chest movement with in a few seconds you know the difference between a sleeping hammie and dead hammie.

I usually gently blow on her through the screen top, & she'll open one eye at me.

Hehe, well that works. Just dont be so worried, chances are she will show a lot of signs and some illness before she dies or even old age. Just relax and tell your mom to calm down! :)

I think it's really cute when they sleep like that :) My hamsters only done it once though.. she usually just fallls to sleep anywhere in the cage.. or she like.. sits there and tucks her head under her body. It's cute ^^;;

Hamsters curl up into a ball when they die? That scares me because Blossom loves to curl up in a ball to sleep.

There was one time when my ww was sleeping in a curl of her tube, she was sleeping on her tummy, all four legs spread open and head tilted down! As she was breathing and moving she got so close at the edge of a curl that she rolled down to the bottom of her bin! The funny thing was that she was sleeping so deeply that she didn't even realise what happened! She was so funny!!!

Yeah. My hamster half curls himself into a ball and slowly closes his eyes when he sleeps. I saw him fall asleep last night (he ran like a lunatic 2 hours nonstop I guess he was tired) and it was so cute!
