Hey,
I was just wondering if shredded up toilet paper was okay for a Syrian Hamster. I just didn't know if it was too dusty or not! Please help, I need to know soon. Thanks! :D

I think it would be ok...as long as it's not scented or anything. If it's ok for dwarfs, I'd say it's ok for syrians too.

Yup, its the best thing to use. Unscented, of course, like said above. The hamster "fluff" marketed as bedding can get stuck in a cheek pouch, choke a hamster if it gets wrapepd around a neck, or get wrapped around a leg and sever it.

I had never seen any of that "fluff" stuff that I've heard so many bad things about until today. I originally thought they were referring to the Carefresh style of bedding...that was my reasoning for choosing the recycled paper style of bedding that I did (that and that's what the store was using so I wanted her to feel as comfy as possible when going to a strange place.) Even not knowing, I would NEVER give that to any animal! It just looks dangerous! Anyone with common sense should know better (my apologies to anyone who learned their lesson the hard way.)

Yep, like Chaos said, it's the best, safest bedding to use for them to make a nest with. You can give them the pieces whole, and they'll enjoy tearing it up and making their own beds. Both my dwarves and Syrians love it!

I hope it's ok to ask this here instead of starting a new thread....
I was tearing the TP into quarters before giving it to my dwarf but the other day I just dropped a couple of full sheets in there to see if she'd tear it up herself. She did a bit once she got it into her wooden house but she pretty much just grabbed the corner and pulled the whole big piece in with her. She pushes it up against the door I assume to block out light/sound (me bugging her...lol) Do you think this is safe? I'm afraid of her not getting enough air circulation in there or something.

thanks for the advice, everyone. babyblues, i think it will be fine, since TP is so thin. But I'm not a pro, so might wanna get some more advice. Hope it helped! ;)

Yeah, I think LG will be fine. She knows what she's doing ;)

If there wasn't enough air, I'm sure she wouldn't put it there. I tear some into halves/quarters and put a couple of full sheets in as well. Mine all seem to make two nests, one in their actual little house, and then an extra one in a cardboard box. I think when they get bored of one they go nap in the other.

Maybe it's like us choosing whether to sleep in our bed or nap on the couch!

now that sounded funny! lol my hammie did that all the time, so dont worry, if she was uncomfterbal, she would move out.
