Rite.. I have a 2 yr, 2 month old syrian hamster and his eye is closed everytime I see him on a morning, my mam as been putting milK with hot water on it and it normally opens but its glued!
Ive heard it might be conjunctivitus.
Does anyone eles have this problem? As anyone eles got any solutions?
How much do you think it will cost if i take him to the vets.

Actually around then is when my hamster when blind in his one eye and it just kinda wouldnt water or anything so it got a bunch of gunk in it and has stayed shut, the vet says it's just old age.

We rang one vet up and they said it would be £11.74 without treatment and the other said it was £9 without treatment so we booked the cheapest one and the nearest apointment is friday.
An hour ago i finally opened the eye by bathing it but then ive just looked at it and its closed back up.
It as like yellow crispy dry bits near the eye.

This may be a stupid question, but is there any chance that he might have had a stroke and had his eyelid paralysed? I mean, people sometimes get paralised by strokes! Do hamsters get brain strokes?

Yes Kokkiniklosti that was a very stupid and somewhat mean question.
hamsters can and do have strokes but if you knew anything about it you would know that there would be a lot more symptons than a sticky eye. don't go scaring people for their pets health like that its horrid!
Hamsters actually get something called gluey eye... it's literally when the eye lid gets stuck down. it usually lasts around a week and can reoccur often ... baby hammies get it more often. but i've had three year olds with it.
Little bit of warm water with tiny bit of salt in it and cotton wool. just wipe it gently and gently pull top eyelid up as you wipe. if skin is normal colour and not inflamed then highly unlikly to be conjunctivitus and that could usually effect both eyes anyway. It may well have vanished by friday.

Pixibubbles, I didn't find that a stupid question. Kokkiniklosti was just saying what it could be. I am sure she wasn't trying to be mean! I actually find your response mean. And, obviously she doesn't know a lot about hamster strokes, that's why she stated it as, "This may be a stupid question but..."
If I had a hamster with that same problem, I would want to know what the problem might be, I wouldn't care if it scared me or not. I want the truth, not people being nice and telling me a lie. Kokkiniklosti was just trying to help. There is nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, I didn't think it was intentionally mean! A bit random ;) But not mean. Don't worry, Kokkiniklosti! :)
I hope your hamster's eye is better soon. Good job for taking him to the vet- very responsible of you. I hope you figure out what it is!

Many apologies then... if someone had made a comment like that about an animal of mine i would spend the next few days until i could get to the vet freaking out.
Sorry kokkiniklosti

I am really sorry, i didn't mean to create all this fuss! I really know nothing about hamster strokes! This question just popped on my head because an uncle of mine had a stroke that resulted in partial face paralysis! It was only a question! I didn't intend to worry anybody! Please do not misunderstand me! I am not mean!
