Someone suggested that I move Peanut into a 20 gallon tank instead of her 10gallon... but when I DID have one and moved her in there, she seemed very anxious about all the room and stressed herself out.

I was thinking though... would it be better to get one of those cages that sit ontop of the 10gallon tanks??

Does anyone have their hamster living in one of these?? I'd like to see pictures & hear what you think of them.

I figured this would be a better option because she could move more, yet not be so overwhelmed by the amount of new space.

she might have been excited, not overwhelmed. hamsters like room, especially room to dig.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. What makes you think she was stressed out? Was she just moving around alot? She was probably excited and glad to have the extra room.

The more room the better.

I agree, but you have to know that the difference between 10 and 20 gallon tanks aren't that big, like another 4 inches me thinks..

there's a 4 inch difference between a 10 gallon tank and a 20 gallon tank. there's a 10 inch difference between a 10 gallon and a 20 gallon *long* tank. i had a cage topper that came with a mouse i bought from a member. i say i *had* the topper because when i got it, it was nothing but sharp edges and points and there was no way i'd risk my kids around it. make sure if you do get one (not a bad idea) that it's smooth solid edges and corners. :)

yes it was 20 gallon long (meant to be a home for fish). It was the only one available at the petstore & VERY hard to carry 50 yards to dump old bedding in the back of my house. I don't think I've seen a regular 20 gallon tank ever though. I'm glad to know there is a 20 gallon thats smaller than what I was toting around!! :D

& she was stressed out by the new room because all she would do is stand on the wheel & push up on the screen/bite it, and do the same with the water bottle in its hanger... climb it, bite/push up on the screen top. Whenever I would get her bowl to put new food in, she would charge at me to attack my hand.. When she got back into the 10 gallon, she was fine.
