Ginger Bear mysteriously recently died (check out the memorial...place) and I was wondering if it would be okay to get a new hammie for Currently Nameless. If so how long should I wait and how long should I not wait? Or can Currently Nameless survive being single?

Also, she doesn't seem to understand that the tupperware container in her cage is full of sand. She steps on it, pees on it, even kicks it out but hever rolls in it. I put it in there since the beginning of august but am I being too optimistic about her realizing what it is? If not how do I get her to bathe?! (she still does it in the litter just not in the sand)

She will be fine alone and most dwarfs make their "sand box" a litter box actually. It's really common. You have nothing to worry about.

She probably thinks they are the same thing/same usage.

You can leave her alone now, & if she is old she might need to stay alone until she passes.

Actually, I barely had both of them for two months. She still has quite a bit of life left and I don't want her to die lonely or anything...

hmmm... I've been hearing that dwarves LIKE living in pairs.... Should I risk giving Currently Nameless a friend before she gets too used to being alone?

If shes young then it should be fine.. introduce them in the bathtub & put them in the home together after quarentine time with fresh bedding.

Dwarfs can get along in colonies or pairs yes but once a dwarf has been by itself it generally likes to be by itself and wont get along with any other dwarfs. SO my advice is to leave her by herself and if you wanna get more dwarfs buy 2 more SAME SEX dwarfs and put them together and watch them enjoy life in pairs.

For rolling in sand, you can try to get a sort of shallow bowl, and put not that much sand in it, so that there is about 1/4 inch of sand in it. Then see if currently nameless rolls in it.

My dwarf is alone. I got him 2 weeks ago yesterday and he's been fine alone. We get him out a few times a day to play and is adjusting just fine.
Also, he was/is using the sand as a place to urinate but finally started rolling in it. I've just had to be sure to change the sand often. Since he now knows to roll in it, I thought of putting another bowl in full of litter and try to teach him to potty there but I haven't decided yet.

Hmmm.....Well, I think i've decided to leave Currently Nameless alone since she never really liked sharing with Ginger Bear.

Petluver: That sounds good! I'll have to find a bowl small enough to put in the cage, tho.

What would be the signs that she is not fine alone *worried*

That could be anything, they act that way when they are sick too...

what about coming out on the wheel later and later until she only goes on it at past midnight and not for very long? 'Cause I used to go to sleep with the wheel running and wake up with it stopped but now i go to sleep without the wheel and wake up with it...

Shinsei was alone for a little bit but is fine with Akari sharing a cage with her. They are both young. Last night, I caught them sleeping in the sand bath together. Lolz!

In my honest opinion, it is your choice whether or not you want her to have a friend. Since she is young and had a friend, I think if you get another young girl they should be absolutely fine [but always have a back up plan!].

If you think you want to just have her and keep her by herself and you think she will be happier that way, then go that route.

My 2 girls did great so I don't see why yours couldn't. However, she can go it alone as well. I think this one is just a matter of preference between you and Currently Nameless.

sleeping in the sand? Is there a song in there somewhere? Hammies are so wierd, i mean, don't you think that'd be rather uncomfortable?

I never really thought Currently Nameless liked sharing with Ginger Bear becuase now she seems more willing to come out than before. As long as she shows no sign of grief or anything I think she'll be fine alone...

Then alone she stays.

I didn't really think sleeping in the sand would be so great ... but Shinsei sleeps in there most of the time while Akari takes a snuggly corner or goes into the Timber Hide-A-Way.

I would find it distrubing if C.N slept in her sand...she likes to go pee in it so....
