In February we introduced 2 baby girls to our lonely one and a half year old girl Sniff (now 2 years old) whose sister had just died. We are now having re-occuring problems between the two babies (now 8 months old).
One of the babies (Oy) has always been wanting to be the leader - but had no chance as Sniff is so much bigger and wiser. She has given up trying to take the leadership from Sniff but has started chasing her sister Eek.
About a month ago Oy was chasing Eek so much that Eek was terrified and jumpy all the time. The boys' aquarium was in the same room as the girls' and they were going wild at the same time. We figured it might be just heat so we moved the boys to a different room, cleaned and removed all smells from the girls' aquarium, put them back inside and they have been fine for the last month. The boys also quieted down instantly after being moved.
Now Oy has started the same pattern of behaviour again. Frantic chasing of her sister Eek at all times - even in neutral locations where they had kept apart last time. We tried to clean the tank and clear all smells again but the chasing was continuing. We have now dabbed everyones butt with almond flavour (food flavouring) and they are behving well together - except for a tendency of Oy to be agressive.
We fear what might happen when the smell wears off. They have been split-caged this last week to help get over their differences but it doesn't seem to have helped. Should Oy be made to live alone? Sniff gets along with both and Eek adores Sniff and just wants Oy to leave her alone. Oy has been the agressor through and through. Any ideas or suggestions would be very appreciated...
