It was SOOOO cute! lol :p
Unfortunately, I think he's doubling it as a toilet b/c it smelled very strong of urine the last time I changed it....so have been checking it and changing it every couple of days.
I'm wondering...should I try a litter box with real litter in it?? Or since he's been using the sand, will he continue to want to use it and the litter box would be a waste of money??
I can't believe how big and mature he's getting now! He's just so darn cute! He still won't volunarily (sp?) walk up on my hand for me to lift him out of his bin but doesn't seem upset when I get him out. He will come onto my hand a little to check it out and if I have a treat (an oat or sesame seed) will snatch it real quick and take off. lol
Also...he's gotten strong enough to roll his ball on the carpet. We had to put him on the tile b/c he couldn't get it going on the carpet. Today he was rolling all around on the carpet...down the hall and back, all over the living room. It was great! Such fun!!! :)

haha. You're so lucky yours actually rolls in it *glares at Currently Nameless*.

Unless he's using the sand as a litter box almost all the time it may be good to make a litter box, just in case. Maybe he'll abandon rolling in his dirty sand to properly pee in the litter box?

Haha, thats awesome! I told you with time he would get going in it! Don't worry about a litter box, just clean out the cage, as far as im concerned litter boxes for hammies are a waste of money!

Yeah. Basically now, my sandbaths ARE litterboxes are far as the hams are concerned. Hamlet and Hugo use it as both bath and toilet, but Casper (my Syrian) just uses it as a litterbox. I think if I put anything else in the "litter tray" he might not want to use it as much? It's just that chinchilla sand is pretty expensive litter!

Glad that LG knows what it is (ish!) now :)

Aren't they adorable when they roll? :D I'm so glad all of my boys finally figured it out too. It's cheap entertainment. :P

Anyone know where I can get it online cheaply? In the petstore it's over $5 for 4 little packets. At the rate I'm changing it, it goes quick and is a big expense.

I didn't go through all the replies, but I just wanteds to note to NEVER use the CLUMPING variety of cat litter for small pets because they inhale the dust, it clumps and can cause breathing problems, even death. If you're going to provide kitty litter for a small pet, make sure it is the regular sandy unscented kind.

I wouldn't use it as litter, either. Just keep it and the cage clean. No big deal.

Pop-Tart rolls in his but Shinsei sleeps in it! Lolz! My sister's hammy Mallow sleeps in his, too. ^_^
