hey, I was trying to figure out if a Sugar Glider is the right pet for me. I've heard they need alot of attention, (like, 2-3 hours of playtime after they wake up around 10:00 PM) but the thing is, I have nothing to do with my time, and I stay up late, so I figure I could give one all the attention it needs, and I also have spare time to make food for them. But I don't have alot of money, so I would probably only be able to afford 1. Do you think it would get too lonely all alone? I'd make sure to play with it a long time at night if I can't get 2. So, would a Sugar Glider be the right pet for me?

P.S. I don't mind getting peed on by an animal, It's not the greatest feeling in the world, but it's not that bad

But I don't have alot of money
If you don't have alot of money to afford two, then you don't have enough money for vet bills when they come up, for a very large cage that sugar gliders need. From what I hear, sugar gliders are very hard animals to take care of.. and not for people who don't have alot of experience with exotic animals.

If I were you, I wouldn't get one unless you can get two, have a room devoted to them...and have money for vet bills. Exotic animals vet bills are much larger then a dog, cat, or even hamsters.

actually, my parents would pay for the cage, and the food, and the vet, they just don't wanna buy me the actual animal. and I don't quite have enough to buy 2.

Here's what a glider would intally cost you and then the price for upkeep. Ask your parents if they would mid paying this.

Cage (at least 3x2x2) $125-$250
Pouches $30-$50
Glider Safe Wheel $25
Toys $20-$50
Wellness Exam $55-$75
BML vitaimins $55
BML Ingredients $30
Fruits and Veggies $20
Meal Worms $15
TOTAL: $355-$570 (and this is on the conservative side)

Monthly BML supplies $15
Monthly Fruits and Veggies $15
Monthly meal worms $15
TOTAL $45

A glider vet visit when they are sick is usually $300-$1000 because they show symptoms of being sick at night which means going to the emergancy vet which means big bucks! You cannot wait till morning to take them because they will die within a matter of an hour to a few hours after showing signs.

I would not suggest only getting one as they can actually die of loneliness. They stay in groups of 8-12 in the wild. They are like guinea pigs in the social aspect.

They are very expensive and very high-maintenance. And they require buttloads of research that I'm still doing before I get mine this October. There are a lot of problems that can occur that seem to be for no reason at all and it's hard to find a suggie-savvy vet.

If you really want to know if you can keep a glider, do a lot of research on sugarglider.net. It helped me a lot and is still helping me to make sure I'm on the right track.

This is a very complex animal we are talking about and it dies easier than it lives. The smallest bit of neglect could kill this animal. Do extensive research.

Hey, thanks. :D

Been on sugarglider.net everyday almost all day for the last week. And holy moly, did I learn a lot and I'm continuing to learn! I'm still printing out health articles and treat and toy articles, and I've got 2 diet plans printed out, all that stuff.

You know, darkhamsterlord, if you want I can post here all of the information and articles I have printed. It may help you out to find these articles and read them thoroughly.
