Ulcers?

I have noticed that my goldfish has a red spot on his body. In the middle of the spot is a white lump (possibly pus)

What could this be?

Hi Bex. Ulcers are normally a sign of poor water conditions and we all get that at one time or another. The best thing to do is to make a one third water change from the bottom of your tank to remove excess toxins. The other thing is that if you have gravel in your tank for a year or longer, it could be that there is a lot of debris in the gravel that needs to be removed and this means stripping the tank right down.
