Yesterday afternoon, I caught a mouse in my house and was about to letting it go in a park when it got loose in my room. It was creating havoc EVERYWHERE...eating my fancy mouses food mostly. Its still up in my room right now.

Anyway, last night, while I was asleep, I felt something licking me on the cheek and little tiny wiskers. Immediatly I thought it was the mouse trying to eat me. I layed still for a few minutes and I finally gave up and turned on a light. It was no mouse (althought I did see a brown blob running by, in the corner of my eye), it was Chi! He had gotten out again and had gotten into my bed and sleep with me for what seemed to be an hour. When I turned on the light he was running around my night stand and looked as if he wanted to play or something...it was weird...

Awwe, sounds like my Teddy, he'd always cuddle up in bed on a lil mini pillow beside me and when he wanted back in his house he just licked me and I woke up.

I have a huge amount of electricity in my room. He also never stays still. That is why I always have to put bricks over the lid...but he always manages to get out. Two times I found him in his old litter box. One time I found him in a trashcan. And now I find him sleeping with me...crazy hammy.

I am going to take him to a vet soon because one of his testicals is very hard. He is very old, but he is definatly worth it. I really dont want this guy to die from a tumor if it is one. My mom is being kind of stingy but I know she will let me take him to the vet once I call the vet and the beg me to take him over.

What is the best food for hamsters? Right now I just buy the most expesive and the only one without seeds although I know its not the best. I might have to order it because my choices are pretty limited around my area.

get a humane trap....

& is he in a glass tank with a screen top??? they make loops for the tops... they attach to the top & wrap up under the black frame of the cage. with the suction the frame has it makes it twice as hard to push up & get out.

He is in a bin cage and I use a window screen for a lid.

Oh, and I found him!!! He was behind my computer desk!
The vet said there was nothing we can do for his tumor.:( He said it was malignant...poor chi boy.

oh i'm sorry. poor Chi.... it might not be too bad... i mean humans can live for years and years with testicular cancer and it not too much bother... it might be slow growing and not matestisise (or however you spell it)
what did the vet say?

In general, a malignant tumor is caused by abnormal regulation of cell division. Typically, the division of cells in the body is strictly controlled -- new cells are created to replace older ones or to perform new functions. Cells which are damaged or no longer needed die to make room for healthy replacements.

If the balance of cell division and death is disturbed, a malignant tumor may form. Malignant tumors are classified as either benign (slow-growing and often harmless depending on the location) or malignant (faster-growing and likely to spread to other parts of the body and cause problems). Malignant tumors are what we call cancer.

Still with all that he can live a long life. It all depends on where this tumor is located and how much growth it goes through.

Thats the word he said! Benign. Sorry I forgot and thought he said malignant. He said it was common in older male hammies.:( Was it something I did wrong?? He use to be my sisters hammy but she didnt want him anymore so I greatfully took him in but I didnt know to much about hamsters at the time.

Will that not affect him any in his life span? He is already over 3 now....I dont know how much longer he has, I hope he becomes the oldest living hammy in the world.

good to hear that it's a benign tumor. I hope he's the oldes living hammy in the world too! (unless compared to mine! lol). But 3 yrs is pretty old already. It sounds like you're taking good care of him and love him lots. Good luck!
