Funny Eating Habits

So today I was refilling the hamsters' food dishes and as I was emptying the tiny remains of Pop-Tart's dish I noticed that he has an interesting eating habit.

It appears he only eats the bottom parts of the corn or sometimes one side of the kernel.

He is so cute and his eatting habit is so hilarious!

Isn't that weird?! I noticed that all of the corn in his dish was like that. Half-eaten.

His other habit is emptying his pouches in his run-about ball. Turns it into a rolling maracca. :laughing:

OMG! Hah, that would be so annoying too..I get headaches easily being pregnant.. I'd totally get ear plugs ha!

My boyfriend sleeps with earplugs because the guinea pigs and hamsters are both in my room. :laughing:

Lolz! The best part is, he never complains. He doesn't seem to care at all. He just keeps a pair on him and if it gets too noisy he pops 'em in and goes right back to sleep. ^_^

That is totally adorable! But he shouldn't get the corn really, being a dwarf.. it's not good for them!

You've just reminded me that I need to add ear plugs to my shopping list.. I lost mine and now it's got so bad in my room that I haven't been sleeping in there for the last week or so. 3 wheels on the go at once is ridiculous.

So yeah- I have to get new earplugs urgently! My mum's getting annoyed with me sleeping downstairs on the couch :D

My dwarf does the same thing. I give them to him only as special treats so I notice when it's left. It's not one of his favorites, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds are by far his favorites. He doesn't like carrots either. He likes the inside bean parts of green beans but not the outside parts. He also has eaten a pea and peanuts before.

AnimalMagic, I know corn is bad for rabbits and guinea pigs but I'm pretty sure the seed mix even with a little corn in there is okay for the hams.

I also hide 3 lab blocks per hamster in with the food [I hide them throughout the seed mix so as they dig deeper they find them]. So he won't be robbed nutritionally.

I can check on it, but I don't think it will harm them.

Seed mix with a lil corn is okay for hams but not always recommended as corn has natural sweetners in it and can cause diabetes to start up in dwarfs.

There's only a little of this stuff left so this weekend we'll keep our eyes peeled for stuff without corn in it. ^_^

You can keep the seed mix that you have, just take out the few pieces of corn before you put their bowl down! That's what I do :)

Yeah, I meant to say the reason why- because it can lead to diabetes. It's okay for Syrians but not recommended for dwarves because they're prone to diabetes.

I might just be able to find something without corn. I have some low-end food my mom bought a while ago anyway and I hate the stuff.
