Now that Little Guy is completely comfortable with his surroundings, he's a bit more aggressive (not mean, just not as shy) and wants to do more fun things. He's learned to run in his ball and has a blast at it. I'm wondering if dwarves in general like to climb. I want to make him an upper-level or "loft" type thing for his bin (wooden of course) and wondered if he'd enjoy it or if I'd end up wasting my time b/c dwarves don't really like to climb. I found these really cute wooden dollhouse stairs that I can use to help him get up there. I noticed he doesn't really care for the ramp that he has on one of his toys (it's a wooden house with an upper level but he can only play on it during play time.) Instead, he grabs onto the upper level and just pulls himself up...lol goofy guy! So I thought stairs might be more appealing. So, what's the concensus? Should I try an upper level? Do they like to climb?

My ww hammy loves climbing but only in her own way! She has a second level in her cage and a little ramp that leads on it. But she prefers do go up there the hard way! She will insted climb up the wires, then grab upside down on the top of the cage and "walk" with the head down, just like a monkey and when she reaches the place she wants to land she just lets herself down! I thing that she really enjoies it! some times she will just do this monkey thing over and over again and maybe bite the wires of the cage in this position! She will still do this even if she knows that the door is open and that she can get out! Also, when i get her out i put her on the floor with many books and magasines set up in a way that she can climb on them! The funny thing is that sometimes she does not feel comfortable enough to get dow and waits for me to do it! Then she will do it again and again untill she desides to get down herself!
I do not know if all hamsters like climbing but my Stahti lives it!

Thanks. I'm gonna take my daughter to the craft store today and get the stuff I need to make it. I'll also be getting the mesh wire I need to doctor my bin's lid. I think with an upper level, he'll have better opportunity to escape since it'll be closer to the top...don't want that! :)

Dwarves like to climb. When my hamster, Stevie is in the play area, he tries to climb up it, but can't.

Turns out last week was nothing but rain nearly all week so we never made it to get supplies. But I do plan to do it soon. I"m excited but want to make sure that I make it exactly perfect for me so I don't spend a bunch of money changing it after I get it done (I have a bad habit of doing that.)

My Lilo loves to climb too!! we are waiting for her new cage to come right now because the cage she has now, its pink and a wire cage and has a second level, with a ramp, but a couple days ago somehow she managed to pry the bars apart just enough to escape! She was gone for the whole day...so we are putting her in a new cage, which will most likely be a crittertrail with a second level for her to climb in.
Stitch and Deigo dont seem to be too much of climbers and either are Cinderella and Prince Charming.:hamster1:
