My 10 yearold sheltie is pooing blood. She has been for the last couple of days. Whenever she is out for a walk (twice a day normally) she always goes to the bathroom. Being the nice person I am I pick up my dog manure. I noticed her pooh had blood on it. I checked out her tail and bumhole and there were no cuts on it so I am assuming something si going on inside of her.
She always seems rather constipated, but after she's pooped she is runnign with the puppies and playing like she normally does. She physically and emotionally doesn't seem any different.
The same thing happened a couple months ago but itwent away so I didn't think twice abotu it (stupid of me, I know). Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong with her?
I have talked to my mommy about it and all the dogs, and the rats are going to the vet this week so I guess I'll find out then. But for now any idea of what might be wrong would be great.

Hey zombieZOO you better take her to the vet. Because we don’t know whether something hit her? Only vet can tell you the actual reason.

She needs to see a vet now, not this week unfortunatly. Blood in the feces is a sign that she is bleeding internally somewhere. How bad and exactly from where is for your vet to decide. Has she eaten anything sharp or irriating in the past few days?

i bet no one has ever gone to a human website and said "hey, i've been sh*ting blood for two days - should i see a doctor?"
NO, they'd be there the second it happened. but somehow it's okay to let the dog go for 2, 3, 5 days before seeing a vet.

Actually I know plenty of people who would wait a day or at least untill another bowel movement to go to a doctor. Not saying it's intelligent, just saying they'd do it for humans too, not just the dog.
The OP is 16, not really her call... but try to get your mom to take her to the vet asap!!!

there is no reason for you to be rude...they might just not know so why are you being so harsh? my cody was hurt, and his stool was BLACK and we didn't take him to the vet immediately either. turns out its from a certain medicine he was on..once we stopped giving it to him it went away. so stop being a prick.

Also it kind of depends on the amount of blood and what type, you know black tarry looking or bright red.

thank you for your comments DaDezBombzzz.
i totally agree with you. maryjane, you may be very passionate about the welfare of dogs but seriously dont be such a rude little prick. I've read your past threads and they have been helpful for me, as i am pretty much a beginner at owning a dog. However, thats not to say i agree with the way you comment on others. Yes, like others we all have our love and passions for our most important pal, our dogs. but is it a must to insult and show your annoyance at others.
People come on this forum looking for help and eventhough you give help, its not a must to make someone feel bad just because they may not have all the experience "you" have. As long as she receives the correct advise and clearly she is trying to do something about rather than ignoring it.
So seriously back off and dont be so rude. Keep your comments to yourself. Im sure wen you started off, there were many questions you had and im sure that you wouldnt like it if someone said things to you like the way you have treated others.
The way you comment make others afraid to ask questions and clearly try to persuade themselves that nothing is wrong coz they dont want to ask, incase they get bombarded with reckless and unnecessary comments such as yours. Sorry but thats how i see things. I dont know if others agree/disagree but im one of those people coming online to ask and share advise agmonst us all.
But to the thread, I think you should take your dog to the vet and get it checked out. Its better to be safe than sorry. hopefully everything is fine. Best of luck.

Ill go ahead and just stick my foot in my mouth. Sorry guys, I agree with MaryJane 100%. Nor do i buy the "im only 16 and can't do anything" excuse. I was in third grade and getting up every 2 hours to feed my week old kitten that was half dead. And guess what, 13 years later or whatever, he's alive, happy and still attacking me. If you, your child, whoever, was have a bowel movement with blood, you would be at the doctor or have at least phoned the doctor to ask. After seeing enough animals being put down for things, if taken to the vet 2,3,4,5 days ago when it was treatable, i would feel differently about it. If ANY animal of mine EVER had a bowel movement with blood, first phone call i would make would be to the vet, and ask for suggestions, not sit on petshub and ask what to do after a couple of days.

Alright, this will absolutely be my LAST post on this thread because I am an adult and I refuse to have arguments with rude little children. If you are unwilling to get medical treatment for an animal when it is necessary (not 2 days or a week later), then you should not have that animal. I am a vet tech. I know that there are many reasons that a dog could have blood in it's stool. I also know that some of these reasons could be life threatening and others could at least cause severe dehydration and/or anemia over a very short time span. This is not a "wait and see" type situation.
I'm glad that the one poster's dog lucked out and didn't have anything wrong with him. That is all it is, though. Luck. It could have just as easily been a serious condition.
This board is a great tool for advice. However, no one here is a vet and none of the techs or assistants here would ever advise anyone to take their advice rather than have the animal see a doctor. If you have a question about vaccination schedules, spaying/neutering, or what food to use....by all means, ask here. If your pet is defecating blood, vomiting profusely or ataxic....don't waste time here. Get your pet to a vet as quickly as possible.
I have flagged the above posts for abusive language.

Good for you MaryJane!!!
I completely agree with you, if my cats were defacating blood, it would be to the emergency vet for us. Not just the one cat, either, both of them.
Many people here have compaired their animals to their children. If your son or daughter started to poop blood, what would your first reaction be???
"Oh I think I will call and make an appointment for next week.....oh no I have to get my hair done that day, my nails the next. Two weeks from now works for me."
YEAH RIGHT!!! I would be on the phone with the doctor, while I was driving my daughter into the hospital.
MaryJane had every right to say what she did. Yeah the language was a bit overkill, but who cares if it gets her point to the OP then great she did a job well done.
Now to the OP:
Get your animal to the VET NOW!!!!

It's great that you got up to feed your kitten when you were in the 3rd grade. Fantastic! But a vet visit costs money and I know that when I was 16, I didn't have that money. That's why our dogs then were family dogs, my parents payed the bills, which means they called the shots.
So, yeah, I think it's a good excuse for the OP. Not for her mother though - not one bit.

fair enough.
i do agree with you guys.
however, being an adult like yourself, why did you have to sound to rude and not caring about others feelings? well thats my interpretation of your post.
however, like you said there is no point arguing any further, we are here to recieve as well as give advice to and from others helping each other.
so please go to the vet and get it check asap.
I never knew "rude" and "prick" would be flagged? I'm not sure how you think but go right ahead. Flag if you must. I mean, "rude" is a common word and prick, maybe colloquial?
