my hamster's wheel squeaks so badly. I only get about 2-4 hours of sleep every night, What kind of oil should I apply, how should I apply it, how much should I use and how long do I have to wait before putting the wheel back in the cage?

You can use vegtable oil/ cooking oil. Just use a little a wipe down any excess. Works like a charm (a you'll probably see that your hamster is more interested in licking the oil parts of the wheel instead of running in it for a bit! :) )

What about petrolium jelly like Vaseline brand? I used that on our old hammies wheels (when they didn't have the new cool plastic ones)

ummmi wouldnt use that myself... if i wouldnt eat it i wouldnt put it in my hams cage

Petrolium jelly is fine to use, humans or pets can ingest it and it doesnt no damage, actually for cats they recommend it so they dont get hairballs.

Lolz! Yeah, PJ is fine but it tastes nasty.

This is actually helpful since my Silent Spinners have recently gotten incredibly noisy. It's so bad that the other night my boyfriend deserted me at like 3 or 4 a.m. to sleep on the couch. :laughing:

I was just recommending it b/c I knew it was harmless if they did lick it a little and it's a little less messy than vegetable oil that even with the smallest amounts tends to drip or run.

off topic: most sexual human lubricants are made of P.J., even the edible ones. Its safe to ingest and safe for animals to ingest... as long as they aren't gorging in it.

If yours is a wire wheel, then I should say crisco. Thats what I use.

Why not take them out at night?! i know its kinda wrong (cause there active at night), but take them out as soon as you go to bed, and put it back in as soon as you get up?! I do, mine are hanging off the wall (with thoes clips that stick to da wall) Cause mine didnt just squeek mine rattled the whole tank!! (very noisy, i didnt one time and woke me up, i was very angery cause it was so loud and they didnt stop!!)

Just drip some veggie oil on the axels & the problem is solved.

People put it on their teeth to make them shiny too :p

But like others said...vegetable oil is best....it's what I use on my ratties' wheel.

We put it on napkin and just twist around spinny part!

Well the good kind doesn't include them :p I'm talking about the cheap kinds you can find at any gas station haha.

Everytime my town gets an adult store, it closes a year later. Except one thats been around for 25 years, but its very............ unsanitary.
