Do you know about my Apollo eating the last one right? Well, Starr has 2 IP right now and is about to burst. I think Apollo is tring to get into her pouch to eat the babies AGAIN! I dont know what to do!! Can anybody give me ANY advice? I dont know if i'll be able to handle it one more time! :(

You can always try separating him until the babies get a little bigger and come out of the pouch.

I agree that if the male is a danger to the joeys, he should be removed from the cage. Unfortunately, that may stress the mother out enough to kill them herself. But the joeys will have a better chance with the father gone. You would need to do a lot of babysitting to make it easier for the mother to raise them alone.

I would pull the male and put him in another cage very close to hers so that they can still visit with each other. Each night, you can take care of the babies and let mom and dad into a tent together to snuggle and play with each other so that they do not lose their bond.

I thought about that but i didnt think it was best for the both of them. BUT they have been fighting A LOT! It might hurt them emotionally but i think im going to take the chance. Maybe these joeys will have a chance. Very difficult decision!

suga2kids - I would keep their cages close to each other so that they can see each other and still communicate but dont keep them in the same cage of course. I hope these little joeys make it! PLEASE keep us updated on how things go.

UPDATE already! Well I seperated them like just now and one of the joeys just like poped out! It was funny! So i'm glad that I did it now and not a day later or Apollo might have already gotten to them. I am happy now and my hopes are a lot higher for these ones. Pics will be posted this time!

Need some help here please! Ok so like i said there are 2 joeys. The one keeps moving around in and out, very active. BUT the other one on the other side of the pouch is not really moving much at all. I have only seen it tail... once. When the other one was moving and opened that side of the pouch up a little bit. Now could it be younger than the other one or could it possibly be dead? I dont know maybe i just worry too much.

The mom would either eat it or remove it if it were dead, its possibly younger than the other joey which is common. I would just give it time but be extremely careful when u open the pouch because u can detach the joey from the nipple which can be fatal for the joey because they cannot re-attach when they are really young.

So i have torn my house apart trying to find my camera and i cant! I think Nicky put it somewhere! Anyway if one of them is a boy its name is going to be Neptune or O'Ryan. Im trying to stay with the whole theme with Starr and Apollo. As for girls i dont know. Any suggestions?

They are great names!! Thanks! I do plan on keeping them. After all the trouble i doubt im going to sell them. I am really hoping that they are the same sex. I have pics (used someone elses camera) I just got to get them load into my computer.

When do think it would be ok to take out the babies and hold them? The babies are too big for her to carry around so baby sitting is now in my plans. The babies ears are up and they are getting fur now. So I think they are older then what i think. I think she held them in her pouch for so long to keep Apollo form getting to them. Her poor pouch is soooo sttreeetched. Other than that she is being a great mother!

You can hold them now if u'd like but only for 5-10 minutes at a time until they are old

At my pet store we have problems with sugar gliders eating other sugar glider babies. What you have to do is seperate the mom and babies from Apollo. It sounds like Apollo might be having trouble accepting more gliders in his territory and you need to make certain that he is not around when those babies are born. Once the babies are about 6 weeks old I think it will be safe to try to bond Apollo with the babies but for now, you should probably keep them seperated.

I dont think you read the whole 7 pages. I did seperate Starr and Apollo and the babies are doing just fine. They have been born and i have a male and female joey. There eyes are not opened just yet. But there ears are up and they are starting to get some fur.

Astraea is my baby girls name! I finally found a name sutable! Goddess of Justice. She became the consellation virgo.
The Goddess Astraea represents the natural order of everything from vegetation to animals, every thing has a life and unfolds according to its fate, which was totally dependent on the influence of the heavenly bodies.

Astraea was obanded today while me and my bf was out shopping. We came home to her out of her pouch and cold. We tried warming her up right away. She eventually died. But I have no time to morn over her as she has a brother that i have to worrie about now.

2 SugaKids: I beleive mom rejected them because you removed Appollo. She needs him to baby sit and keep them warm while she goes to eat and play in order to be able to nurse them properly. Taking him away put alot of stress on her and she could not handle it. It's NOT reccomended to remove the male at all. Also, what diet do you fee the parents? This is another main thing to watch with them.

lildflynfurball : What diet do you feed the gliders in the store? I KNOW the diet you all feed along with the stress of being in a pet store, and then you removing the male causes the rejections. Gliders should NOT be in a pet store for ANY reason! Also, do you have more than together than a male and female? If so, this is another problem! Joeys will still other couples babies in order to make sure their genes are the ones that stick around.

I can't give much insight on why she was rejected as I have never even owned gliders before and won't be breeding for a long time, if ever.

I feed them BML and fresh fruits and veggies everynight. So if that is wrong then i want to know what is right. I am very frustrated with this whole situation and I am going to get Apollo neutered. I DO NOT EVER suggest anyone to EVER breed! Its nothing but HEARTACHES!
If i didnt seperate Starr and Apollo then they would continue to fight and eat the babies. Never ending process. I think I am going to change their diet from BML, cause if gliderblowout is right then I shouldnt have problems.

If so, then diet is not the reason...hmmmm Dad sounds awefully agressive. I think he is the culpret then. Some gliders just arent ment to be parents. When you seperated them, it stressed mom out enough to reject them. She might do better with anither male that is not agressive towards her as far as parenting, but I believe you are doing the right thing in getting him snipped...just watch to make sure he still doesnt try to hurt her, and to watch for babies because they can hold the sperm up to a year and still have the joeys whenever.
