my cousin's goldfish has an entirely black eye... but otherwise looks like he/she is healthy.... can anyone help me as to what is wrong with his fish... and is there anything that can be done about it?

also, he put an african dwarf frog in the same take (he only has the one fish)... should the frog be removed... will he get sick because of the fish's black eye?

thanks in advance!!

Goldfish will develope spots. How old is it?
What are his living conditions (size of tank, water quality, ect.)

the fish is not old at all... well, at least i dont believe so... it is still rather small. i'm not sure about the quality of the water, or the actual take size, but the tank is a hexagon and maybe about 5-10 gallons...

I asked to take care of the fish tank for now on, because my aunt just wants it to die so she can get rid of it... so i just would like to know if there is anything i can do so that this little fish has a chance.

i've never had fish before, so if anyone can tell me the basic care (or cleaning the tank and the water) so i'll be able to give the fish and frog the best habitat possible.

A goldfish will need a much larger tank than that! Atleast 30 gallons!

Common goldfish must have at least 100 gallons, as they grow to a foot in length. Fancy goldfish must have at least 50. I suggest rehoming it to a pond or someone able to maintain a gold fish. Or you could get a 30 gallon as Punky said and just keep upgrading the tank.

Dwarf Frogs do best in warmer temperatures. Gold fish are cold water fish and do not require heaters. I would separate them.

About the tank situation i am not able to do anything about it at the moment... my Aunt and Uncle are in the dark and keep saying "the lady at the pet store said that it (the fish) would do fine in that tank, i'm not buying another for it." So for the moment he's stuck in that tank... but as soon as i can upgrade one of my tanks, i'll be sure to give it to him.

as for the frog, again, there was no research done before hand from my cousin, but i have an extra tank and i can convert that to one for the frog as soon as i get some more money... along with all the things he'll need (i did some research and have the basic idea about what they need.)

Don't trust pet store advice. It's load of crap most of the time.

I applaud you for taking on the responsiblilty of those animals and ensuring them a lovely life..:)
I am also glad that you have done research on the frog.

Hmm... Is this goldfish by any chance a calico or white matte (non metalic), and has it always been like this? Those types of fish can be born with one or both eyes entirely black.

I'm not sure what kind of goldfish it is... but he hasn't always had the black eye... it has only been like that for the last month... and he's had the fish for longer then that

Goldfish change color a lot growing up. It could be something normal.
