my new budgie scrapes/clicks his beak. it almost makes the same sound as when he's eating but he does it a lot, just when he's sitting. is this normal behaviour for a budgie? i am worried that it might not be very good for his beak because it may wear down the inside of the top of the beak.i was wondering if here is anything i can do to stop this. unless of course it is normal. also could him scraping his beak be just because he is bored or nervous? he has a lot of toys and many things to play with but he is new to his cage. also how old will they be when you will be able to tell the sex? thanks for your help.

hello,
I would like to tell you that your budgie's behavior is perfectly normal. Budgies usually "scrape" their beaks after eating or something. They are only reshaping their beaks. It is like sharpening it. Dont worry, all budgies do this. http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif

thanks. i also have another question. how active are budgies usually? and are younger birds sometimes less active then older ones? mine is about seven weeks old and he will just sit in the same place for a very long time. he doesn't make any noise at all and i don't know if he has found his water yet. i have a few dishes which i tried to show him but he hasn't seemed to notice. i have shown him his food and he ate some but not much. how can you tell when your bird is sick? i read that a healthy budgie sleeps on one foot, but mine doesn't. if anyone has any advice i would be happy to hear it!
