What amazing things has your hamster(s) done in their life? One for me was when Mopsy got cancer, fur loss and tumors all pover his body, the vet said that at the very maximum he would live 2 weeks. In the end he ended up living another 1 and a half years! :hamster3:

My first hammy, bless her, called Hamlet was amazing her whole life.

I got her in the summer holidays when i was at school, a hard time in my life.

When i first got her she developped a nasty case of Wet Tail. It was bad. Until this point, things hadn't clicked with us really, she was a wild ham, vicious almost...

I nearly lost her, no one expected her to live. I sat with her on my lap night and day for 3 days and 3 nights, feeding her water every 20 minutes and babyfood whenever she took it. It was on the 4th morning she sat up and looked at me and was calm, happy and enjoyed a cuddle.

She was amazing, always.

At 5 months old, she fell when running in her cage, her foot went through the plastic rungs of her ladder and she dislocated her back leg and trapped a nerve meaning she had no feeling at all in the leg and it dragged behind her *but* it didn't hurt.

The vet once again told me she should be put to sleep but my heart said to keep trying and with some painkillers, love and i massaged her leg and was moving it carefully when i accidentally managed to pop the joint back in (the vet tried and couldnt!). This was after 4 weeks though, no one expected her to be able to use the leg again but after a day she was fine!

Then at 7 months old she was diagnosed as having Cushings Disease. She lost a lot of her fur, she got arthritic in her joints, became very skinny and she got skin cancer. Then lumps and bumps started appearing, tumours, part of the Cushings Disease.

Despite this, she was the happiest hamster. She loved nothing better than to sleep on my pillow next to my head, I had no fear that she would run away and she went for days without being in her cage. When i was at my computer, she would sleep on my lap or in a little box on its side with bedding in.

I loved that hamster unlike i have ever loved anyone or anything else and i dont think i will ever find that same love. I really miss her.

She was a survivor. She loved life and never let her being very ill bother her. She even talked to me at night when she was in her cage LOL. This animal changed my life, let me know i could love and that there is such thing as unconditional love. I would say that is pretty amazing.

My Hamlet was put to sleep when she was just over a year and a half old, a year after she was diagnosed with Cushings Disease (for which there is not treament or cure... only painkillers and a diet change).

Here is one of my favourite photos of her:

Here is a video of her 'talking' to be in the middle of the night. And yeah, that really was her squeaking! She did it all the time, particularly when she was in season LOL. If i squeaked back she got all frantic with her squeaking.
