My hamster Cinnamon, doesnt look to good. Health wise, seems to be walking around alot slower, and not as active as before. I have not heard him in his wheel in quite awhile. I think he went in it last week, but not this week. He normally gets in like around 10 every single night. But not lately. He is still eating, drinking, and taking veggies. There are no vets around here who will take care of hamsters, at least that i know of. Most wont deal with em anyways. Any advice? or just let him be. I havent gotten him out of his wire cage yet, i was meaning too,but had problems with my cats leaving him alone. I thought maybe he hurt himself climbing around. Thanks for anyones help. I know hamsters dont live a very long time, but ive only had him a year as of august. Of course i dont know how old he was to begin with. Ive already lost my cat and bunny, i cant deal with another loss already. I hate when pets pass away! It really sucks.Im just afraid im gonna find him dead soon. Ok, sorry to go on lol. Ttyls.

is he getting ready to hibernate with winter and all?

hope not because hamsters rarely survive if they get cold enough to hibernate!
you need to get him out and check him over for injuries! It may just be that he is aging or it maybe that he is sick or injured.
If he was from a pet shop it could well be that he is aging, generally pet shop hams don't live so long as they are rarely as healthy as good quality hams from a breeder.
One of my pet shop hams started to look and act 'old' when she was about 13 months old so it is possible..

Our Blaze started to slow down alot like that too about a wekk before he passed away. I really hate to say it but chances are his age is finally catching up on him. Try spending more time with him for a while...as the old saying goes, "Live each day as if it were your last". I really hope I'm wrong. Good luck = \

Thanks. I cleaned his cage last night, looks like he is losing his fur again. Last time it was an allergy to bedding, and hes been fine on aspen, his hair actually all grew back. Old age can cause hair loss right? He got into his ball and ran around fine. Seems to have trouble climbing though. Poor guy. And now my bunny is sneezing too, argh. What next?? I hope you are wrong too,but you may well not be. Ill keep an eye on him.

it could well be hibernation starting... i'vr not seen it in my girl hammies... but two of my boy syrians in the past have changed perosnality in winter. they slept more. played less and just seemed a little ... grumpy. they never actually went into hibernation. just werent quite themselves.
yes fur loss can be caused by old age. and a few other things. could it be that he is patch moulting? i've seen it in bunnies and rats. dont see why not hamsters. and both animals got a bit run down and out of sorts during it. literally they lost their fur before the new stuff grew in. i;d say try getting some hammie vitamins... see if the poke the old boy up.

maybe i dunno. i had him out last night, and i was looking him over. Well hes a biter, but when he went to go bite, ummm there appears to be no teeth! Wth happened to them? I know he broke one before, but it grew back. So i dont know what to do for the poor guy now. No teeth, hair falling out or moulting. i feel so bad now. What can i feed a toothless hamster? Baby food? Can a hamster live on that? Sorry fella!!!

Is there really no vet that can at least advise you??
Is it severe hair loss? as this could be several things, mange, ringworm or vitamin deficiency, this could also account for cinnamon slowing down!
It's just a suggestion, and could equally be none of the above.
I really would try and find a vet, as such small animals need help quickly, if something is wrong:-)

no not severe. just partial hair loss. vets around here wont bother with small rodents. not worth their time i guess. i had a hard enough time finding a bunny vet. the one i did decide on, ended up killing my bunny.so i dont know who to go to or anything. we have a cat vet,but they just do cats and dogs.
