I was wondering what kinda baby food i can feed my hamster. I had butternut squash on hand, so i gave him that last night. He lapped that up. I have peas and carrots as well. Tonight i picked up a beef and carrots also some more squash lol. I dont know whats good whats bad. Can he have anything with potatoes or rice? They had chicken and turkey dinners with potatoes and veggies, but i wasnt sure. Alot had some kinda rice flour in the ingredients, so i didnt know if that was ok. Any help is appreciated. I know to stay away from garlic and onions. What about sweet potatoes?

I'm not sure, but I'd reccomend only prope veggies - carrots, peas etc. and no meat, their herbivores (as far as I know) so (a) he might ot eat it and (b) it might harm him some way r other.

so long as it isnt garlic, chocolate (etc) or citrus (tropical fruit kind) then it is ok. Mine loved the sweet potato!

Actually meat is fine for hamsters and they are omnivores, not herbivores. They need a bit of protein in their diet.

Hamster actually need some animal protien in thier diet and would suffer to have it denied to them.
Baby food is actually one of the best ways of getting veg into an animal that is not used to the fresh stuff as it is less likely to cause the runs.
Sweet potato and any type of squash is fine for all rodents and rabbits. The seeds of pumpkins and squash are great for them too.

Actually, I am just wondering why you want to feed baby food to your hamster? Normally that is not recomended unless your hamster is sick and not eatting. If you are going to give treats...give your hamster a SMALL portion of fresh veggies.

Well the reason i was gonna feed him baby food is, most of his teeth are gone. Only has couple of stubs left.So i was trying to make it easier for him. You can give it as treat as well, i read that onmany hamster sites. Next q is,how often to feed him baby food of some sort? Every other day? I dont want to over do it either. Thanks. He loves green pepper cut up and baby tomatoes. He can still munch on them. I give a wee bit of lettuce like once a week, cause i know to too much lettuce can be bad.

oh bless him... what happened to the poor little mite? if you're after soft foods cooked pasta and noodles go down well here. not sure how often they should be fed but... what about breakfast cereals? something like wheatabix with a little water or even dry should be easy to manage.

Could you stick some of his normal ham food in a blender and make into a paste or something? you have to remove the seeds but the rest works alright. ive only ever done it for poorly hams.

will his teeth grow back?

i would probably weigh him and keep a track of his weight and use the baby food and pasta and stuff as a supplemnt. if he gaining weight he got too much... if losing too little.

My hamsters all get baby food and or porridge EVERY day and mroe when they are breeding. It helps keep a little bit of weight on them and is a good addition to thier diet. It will not do any harm. How do you know his teeth are gone? has he had to have them removed? In this case he definatly need some soft food every day. Another option is soaked puppy biscuits. You can soak them either milk, water of Lactol. Watch out if you ham has never had milk before though as some are mildly lactose intolerant but this is rare.
