My 7 year old female cat-Luna- has taken up to going to the bathroom on my bed. She lives in only one room, my bedroom, because she does not get along with my parents four other rescued cats. It seems at times she goes to the bathroom on my bed out of spite, but it is getting to the point I can not take this behavior anymore. I realize she is scared of my other cats, and have tried several times over the past years to rehome her with no luck. Are there ways of dealing with this issue of deficating on my bed? I have contacted cat rescues but was told to put her to sleep...

It could be a UTI or spraying... even spayed cats spray.

I suggest a vet visit to rule out health problems.

*edit* oh does she only poop on ur bed and not urinate? or is she urinating on ur bed?

If she hasen't seen a vet recently, thats the first thing you need to do. UTIs are the #1 cause for innapropriate urination.

How is it that she doesn't get along with the other cats? what sort of things have you done to try and introduce them and how many times have you tried?

If it IS behavioral it sounds more like she is doing it out of stress than spite. Also, once they get into the habit of going in a certain place they seem to keep doing it. Like my cat Logan will go in front of the litter box in the closet instead of in the box on a regular basis now, even when it is clean. It started because a couple of times the litter was dirty and he went there instead, but now its a habit. As irritating as that is, I can't even imagine it being in my bed on a regular basis.

How long have you lived at your parents with her? All 7 years of her life? Was the the first, last, middle cat? How have you tried introducing her to the others in the past? Is there another area of the house that can be blocked off for her? Like a basement or something?

Cats do not feel spite. Their brains don't work like that.

Your first priority should be to get her to a vet to rule out urinary or kidney problems. These are the primary cause of inappropriate urination. What happens is it starts to hurt them to use the litterbox. They associate the pain with the box and start to urinate elsewhere to try to ease the pain.

Once you have ruled out the huealth issues, it sounds like it could be stress/behavioral. If she is truly afraid of the other cats, they could be harassing her through the door. Try feliway. Feliway is a product that helps to calm cats down. It comes in a spray for use in cat carriers, but it also comes in a plug in, similar to air freshners. Definately give it a try.

Good luck!
