Ok well i got my hamster cinnamon a new cage for now. Its the crittertrail outlook. He seems happy in it so far. I do plan on eventually connecting it to another cage i have, for more room and maybe hooking that up to a bin. Or just hook this one up to a bin. I dont know yet. Anyways, my q is,i have a cat Sweetie, who just will not leave my poor hamster alone! Even in this new cage! I thought without so many wires, maybe hed leave him alone. Eh no lol. Sweeties got the hunter in him, and all he wants to do is eat cinnamon for dinner. Any advice? Because i have to keep hammy in his own lil room locked up so the cat cant get him. I do take out the cage almost every night, so he can see people and what not. But i have to keep a close eye on kitty interaction. Does any else have any probs with kittys and hammys? or is it just me? My sister offered to take him (hamster not the cat) if i felt it was too unfair to him here. I dunno what i wanna do. I mean he is fine, other than being old and slow. Im taking care of him the best i can. Any advice is a appreciated. :)

Crittertrails are a big no no if you have cats. I have lost several small animals when I used crittertrail tubes. Cats will knock them off. I would keep the cat out of the room with your hamster, or make a bin cage and not use tubes.

There really isn't anything you can do that will make your cat leave the poor hammie alone bc it's not likely that you could train him to leave Peanut alone, it's in his blood to hunt just like in every other cat. My advice would be to put the hamster in a bin cage or SOME cage that the cat can't see the hammie, then maybe he'll lose interest and leave him alone. Best of luck! :)

Yeah i guess there isnt much i can do with the kitty situation. This is the cage i got for him. Is that good for a syrian? He seems to like it. I had a lil house thing to put on the side from another cage i had. He can get in that just fine. He was in a wire cage. But with him being older, i didnt want him hurting himself climbing. Also hes too big to go in tubes,so no worries on me adding them lol. Thanks for everyones help.

I have that cage, and I say no..its too small for a Syrian hamster. They need more room!

Also, what bedding is that? It looks like pine. Pine and cedar bedding should never be used! :)

Hmmm...the cat situation is kinda tricky. What I do is keep my hammy in my room and just shut the door whenever I leave the room. It's best, I think. I've never had any evidence that my cat would harm her, but I don't run the risk...

Ok well i do have a small tube he can fit in,and i was gonna connect it to another cage i have so he has more room. Would that be ok?Either that, or i was gonna get a bin and have a tube connect to it.I cant find a good size bin around here, always the small size or the huge size. So i can get a (small size)66qt bin to connect. Also i had cinnamon (cage) out all night past two nights, and the cat didnt bother him. Hmmm..He always bothered him in the wire cage. Only thing that drives me nuts is his chewing with his one good tooth left on the wire bars at the top. How can i stop that? I give him stuff to chew on. I think thats how he lost his teeth on his other cage, chewing the wire bars all the time. Im just glad he is not chewing on the plastic. One more thing, he is on aspen shavings. Not pine or cedar i know they are a no-no. My bunny is on woody pet.

Theres your problem right there mate! The cage is on the ground! Put it up high, on a desk or something, out of the cat's reach. I have two dogs and as all my hammies are in the same room, even one of them getting in would be a disaster, so I just keep the door closed (In fact I've gone so far as to staple a big sign to the door saying, "KEEP DOOR CLOSED" in big red letters)

BTW, what kind of wood is Woody pet? 'Cause that's all my local petshop sells and theres no others for miles...

The cage isnt usually on the floor. I had it on top of my rabbits cage. The cat jumped up there and wanted to check him out. He was in a wire cage like i said before, and no matter where i had it, floor, counter, anywhere in my room, Sweetie wouldnt leave him alone. Btw, im not sure what kinda wood it is,i buy it at my local feed mill. ill give you the link for it. Its great stuff! Doesnt stink at all! My mom uses it for the cats too.

You definitely need a bigger cage for him. Try connecting it to a bin like you said. Also, why can't you just keep your hammie in your room and keep the door closed? That way, there is no risk of your hammie getting hurt by your cats. That's what I do atleast! :)

I know, im working on it. I cant shut my door to my room, because i have my bunny in there and it gets really stuffy.
