I was on a trip and I told my friend to take care of my animals. I thought that at least one was gonna die and it did. But that is not the problem. the problem is that one of my fish has disapered. I checked every were and no fish. my cat could have never got in my room cuz I have the door closed all the time and she cant even make it past the gate at the stairs. does anybodies know were my fish could be???

Do you have live florae in the tank? What about decorative stones..that could have created hiding places. How long were you gone? The fish could have decomposed quiclky if you have live plants especially with the help of other fish picking at his remains. If you have small hiding places, it's likely it died in there. Once, I had a fish swim into a big decorative seashell...gotten stuck and died. Took me a month (when I was cleaning the algae off the shell) to find his remains. SORRY!!!

if you have a snail or algae eater it could have been eatin in a matter of a few days

What else is in the tank?

most likely it died and was eaten away by the other inhabitants.

I second shev, or, alternatively, your friend could have disposed of it after death.

One of the worst things you can do as a fishkeeper is to let someone who is not a fellow hobbyist take care of your stock.
Unfortunately, it's often required.

well instead of having someone look after your stock while you were gone you could have bought these automatic 10 day feeders which sink to the bottom and every once in a while they let off food for your fish there only a few bucks as well

A healthy fish should be fine without food for a week.

MichaelJ...I think the fish has probably been either found or given up for lost sometime in the last 4 years.
