My sister's friend, who's first dwarf recently died getting a bath with the garden hose (I still cry when I think how the poor thing must have suffered) has now gotten two more within a month of the first and decided it would be fun to breed them. now the poor female is pregnant. My mum won't let us take any because she says the incident will be a wake up call for the family but I can't just let those poor things die. please give me all the information you can and I'll print it off and post it down. Also, I'd like to know if I could have tghem arrested for animal cruelty? Surely bathing a dwarf hamster in with a garden hose in the middle of winter in a country that reaches -2c is illegal somehow? Thanks in advance!

If this happened in Greece and i went to the authorities they would laugh in my face and send me to get some sleep! Ahg! I do not know anything about hamster breeding, but i thing that you and yoursister should definately find some good homes for the hamsters and take them away from him! Even if you will have to steal them!

Going to the authorities will get you know where. What do youmean a bath with the garden hose???
The best thing you can do is to research campbell breedingas thoroughly as you can, print off the info and give it to your friend to read. She will either car or she wont. I hope for her animals sakes she does. What colour are her campbells. Does she know about the mottled gene and the risks of micro-whites?

I have no idea what colour they are, I havent seen them. if I don't know the risks of...whatever you said, beleive me she doesn't. what I mean by "A bath with a garden hose" is that she though her hammy looked dirty so she took the cage out into the back garden and sprayed the hose into it (With the hammy still in there of course). I'll do my best to research it, thanks tvrodents.

You can try to find a local humane society and tell them about it, they will probably know how to take legal action against them. I would definetely say there has got to be something you can do. good luck and let us know how it goes.

I just called the ISPCA and they said that it'd hardly be worth taking legal action because it'd probably end up in court and what with the lrgal bills and everything, and the worst that can happen to them is a €100 fine. looks like I'll just have to send down the info pack I've prepared and pray = (

I am sorry if this sound offending to your sister, but doing this means loss of common sense! I mean, "with the hammy STILL there."??? Is there any chance that you can take the poor thing? I am sorry if you have already said something about this!

Good luck with the info pack. I really hope it helps. Unfortunatly the authorities are rarely willing to help if it is going to cost them that much money. If the animals were horses or dogs there would be a case but unfortunatly not hamsters.

Erm...Kokkin the whole point is that the hamster is dead. She killed it with the hose. And it was my sis's friend, not my sis.

How old is your sisters friend? Maybe, you could give your sisters friend research from the internet on hammies. Since she an interest in hamsters, she will probuly read the information. I am sure you will be able to find something on bathing. Hamsters should not have baths...they get sick really easy this way...let alone a hose.....the pressure from the hose was unbareable to this poor guy. My advice is...print some research out and give it to your sisters friend or parents.

If I were you, I swear I would punch your sister's friend...
Tell the parents about how inhumane it is to breed dwarves that when the person breeding them knows nothing about breeding! If they don't listen, seriously, make up a story about how like dwarves can give certain diseases to humans when the female is pregnant and you are immune to it because you know what to do, but it's complicated...
I dunno, just make something up so that the parents won't allow dwarves in their house. Offer to take them off of their hands.

LOL ok while that is kinda funny its not a good idea to lie. What you should do is talk to the parents. Tell them that their child is not taking proper care of the hamsters and then give them some information and try and help them. If they dont seem interested or the child doesnt stop tell them you will contact authority and submit a animal cruelty claim if they dont hand the hams over to you or someone who knows and actually cares about them.

Oh thats real mature.....If you tell the parents that...there first reaction may be to try to get rid of them or not care what the child does.

;) Understand what you mean Petlover. Things like this make me mad also. But the best way to help people like this is education. Teach these people the proper care. Maybe back yourself up with research that you have found.

Ups!!! Sorry!! Didn't mean to offend your sister! :)
Anyway, if he was my boyfriend this would be a very good reason to break up! The only thing that you can do right now is educate them the bast way you can! Something like this happened the other day with a girl near my neighborhood and her rabbit! She keeps him in a filthy cage with no time out at all and just feeding him crap(sorry for the expression!)! I wrote down for her EVERYTHING i know on rabbits and gave her to read and learn. The only thing she did was get him a baby rattle! She made me so sick that way that i startad laughing and we anded up not talking to each other! Unfortunately now i know i can do nothing else about it! I hope that you rsister's boyfriend changes his ways for the sake of the hamster!
