I wanted to let EVERYBODY know about MelaFix- a new, all natural medicine just on the market by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. I got it on a pet store employee's recommendation, to help my new Oscar's torn fins. He had rips about half an inch deep in his dorsal and caudal fins. I dosed his tank with the tea tree oil-derived medicine, and went to sleep. The next morning, I couldn't believe my eyes- Tut's fins had restored 50 PERCENT OVERNIGHT! That's a fourth inch new tissue! He also settled into his new tank with less than usual stress- this stuff is great! Just wanted to let everybody know about it!

angel2: Thanks very much for the heads up on fishy meds.

I will check it out here in Calgary, I have an Oranda with a split fin.

Melafix isn't that new... I've been a faithful user since early oct, when my 5 year old common bristlenosed pl*co had half of his face ripped off in a net accident. He had barbed himself into the net when I was catching someone else, and struggled to free himself so bad that he tore the skin which held his bristles back. I dosed him with melafix and the next morning I woke up to find him back to normal... I called it "Loco and the Melafix Mirical"

I too have been an avid MelaFix lover. I have used it on just about every fish. My dads Oscar got picked on by some larger fish and we had to put him in his own tank and we used melafix just once and in less then a week he was fine. We now keep a HUGE bottle on hand for anything else.
