Will my hamster Voldemort ever be tame? He always bites when you put your hand in the cage. Even if its not to pick him up. He bites when you change his water, when you go to give him food oreven if you just stick your hand in the cage. I have never grabbed him to pick him up. I always let him come to me but he always b ites. Not nipping either. A good hard bite. Once out of the cage he is curious and doesn't bite anymore but is there anyway I could get him to stop? Maybe he's just like that because he doesn't like it when someone's in his space? I'm really not sure. I'd like for it to stop but I suppose if it doesn't that's okay too.

LOLZ, Voldemort....
Well, give him a break of handing for 2-3 days. When he gets settled down, put a cup or a toilet paper tube into his cage and wait for him to go into it. When he's into it, put your hand by the opening so he steps out onto your hands. Opie hasn't bitten me ever with this method.
Good Luck! :)

sometimes hamsters are just like that. If you want a hamster you gotta expect them to not always be the nicest of animals. Some are very very sweet and some are just terrors. So i agree just pick him up with a cup or something.....maybe that will keep you from getting bit from picking him up.

I was just wondering if there was anything I am doing wrong with him. He's a really sweet heart outside of his cage. It's just when you are in his space when he gets cranky.
and ah I didn't think it'd stop. I was just hoping there might be away to get him to. Also, I've tried the toilet paper roll thing. He still bites. I know just use oven mitts.

Oven mitts?! I used to use gloves for Opie. They were like thin though, and he never bit them hard enough to get at my skin.
I put the gloves into the cage for 2 days, then I put the gloves on and I held him like that to get him used to hands.
Also, after I clean out Opie's cage, and after I put the carefresh bedding in (just the cage and carefresh, no other toys) I put my hand down (make sure that it smells like carefresh) on the bedding flat, and he just runs all over it, trying to get up my arm! :)

you could blow gently on his face when he bites. they dont like that. just make sure you dont have a cold when he does it.
If he has a run about ball (and it will fit) pop that in the cage and pick him up in that. then let him climb out on lap. (i use this one to ctach my mates dwarves lol)
If you feed him treats feed thme in the cage. he bite... he no get treats.
You could try putting your hand in his cage... just out of reach. as he gets used to it move lower and lower. maybe he's scared? even if you need to sit there for 10 minutes wiaitng for his lordship to chill out it's worth a try (i'd ptu the cage on the sofa or bed with ya... i have a feeling he may resist this method for a while.)
