Yes thats right. Again I couldnt help myself. They were all so darling and i just feel in love with all of them. I do know some about the parents though. They have the father i am assuming because they said he was a long haired hamster. They said both parents are very sweet and the babies are just so loveable. They dont bite or anything. They do jump alot and you have to be careful. They will be 6 weeks old tuesday. They already have really fuzzy hair. I wonder if they will be long haired too....

Anyways yes i do have pics....didnt think i would make a thread without pics did you? hehe

Oh and yes i am aware that syrians are solitary animals. I know i have both babies together but that will be changed once i get another cage...so no worries.

ok those are all the pics i took. I do have a question...is the black and white one considered a panda bear hamster? I'm horrible with colors and i didnt know if it took 2 panda bear syrians to make panda bears or whatever lol.

aw, they're such cuties!! :lovestruc

as for coloring, a panda bear hamster is just a made-up name for a syrian hamster... i think (not sure) they are some type of banded syrian, but not sure if it gets more detailed than that. Sorry!

I LOVE THEM!!! :heartbeat

They're so gorgeous. You're so lucky!!!

~Katie
P.S. Have you named 'em yet?

Panda bear is a fake name.

It would be a black banded Syrian? Something with the banded in the name though.

The other one I am pretty sure is a Golden Syrian.

Very cute!

Wow, i love the multi coloured one! Although the banded one does not fall behind! What is their sex? Have you thought of any names yet?

the black banded (panda... whatever you want) def looks like a long haired... they are so gorgeous.
You should be alright to keep them together for a little bit longer as they are litter mates... not more than a fornight or so tho. just watch out for squabbles. are they boys or girls?

what you callign em?

ok thanks everyone. Yeah i know panda bear isnt a real name but it sounded cute hehe. Um i checked and rechecked and rechecked multiple times. I am pretty sure both are males. They are the same gender no matter though but i am 90% sure they are males. They are just so loveable too. If i had more room i would have taken in more of them. As the lady kept the poor dears on pine. Plus all 8 babies where in a tiny tiny cage...no more then 1 foot long and a half a foot high. They were so crowded. I feel aweful. But i have mice and gerbils in all my others. No way i can take more in. Although i have been tempted to call her today and ask if shes got any more left. Go and get them and then let my friend tracy have them. Or at least see if she wants them or knows anymore who wants them. Anyways enough with complaining about the previous owners. So yes they are both males and no i havent figured out names yet. For some odd reason the name mookie is sticking out to me for the black and white one. But then again im not sure. I kinda wanted to go with a theme but i dunno. So any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

oh i was sitting here thinking about cage sizes and all. I plan on keeping one of the hams in the 10 gallon and sometime getting a tank topper. I am thinking thats fine....at least i would assume its fine. And I saw alot of wire cages in the pet store. Just kinda looking at different ones to see what would work the best. And its not that bad in price the one i was thinking about getting is $40 or around that...it has 3 levels and its so....cute lol. Christmas is when i will be getting the gift cards and money to do this. So I would say 1 week...2 weeks at most i will be getting another cage. I'm not worried about a tank topper yet. More worried about separating the precious hammies cuz i would die if anything happened to them...i love them so much.

Oh and before i post this i just wanted to mention something funny that happened. I was petting and playing with my new hams yesterday. And jasmine....being all cute and adorable like she is was climbing on the wires in her cage cuz she wanted attention too. I put my hand in there and she sniffed my hands and gave me this weird look like "i thought i was the only hamster" LOL shes so adorable but she gets jealous real easily...like most of my pets cuz i spoil them rotten lol.

10 gallons, tank topper or not, is not appropriate for a Syrian in my opinion. They need running room. While levels are nice they need space and 10 gallons just won't cut it. Go for bins. Cheap, roomy and my Syrians prefer them.

i still need help with names. The sadistic nature in me wants to name them after 2 of my favorite horror movie icons.....Voorhees and Krueger.....hehe jason and freddy...but i would use the last names. But then that seems weird for 2 adorable hams. AHHHHHH This is what happens when you own to many animals and dont wanna reuse names lol. I really really need help...not just mental but also help naming the hams. Any ideas for names....unique names lol

I think the cinnamon colored one is a Sable or a Golden Banded Long Hair. Could also have satin in there depending on the fur.

I think the black and white one is a black banded or a black banded long hair.

Moosley is way better at this than I am.. lol! She will definately know for sure!

i would def go with the bins mate. Easier to clean and cheaper. can move them about easily too. Obviously get the biggest you can... and you can always styack them on top of each other. i would say at least 10-12 inches deep and 24 long. although 30 long would be better. my cage is a bin/cage thingy from petsmart and i paid about £30 for it. then i discovered this place and the whole bin cage idea lol feel a right silly bum lol. next cage will be bin. means i got more to spend on toys and treats lol

12-19-06, 07:06 AM 12-19-06
oooo yeah i was thinking about that. My only problem with the bin idea is honestly we dont have floor space...the cages i have now are having to be stacked on my rats cages. Thats the only thing that worries me. And this is the only room my cats are not allowed in. I will see what i can do though.

oh i forgot to mention that last night i had some sunflower seeds and broken up peanuts in my hand. Both were eating out of my hand...it was so precious. Plus the golden one started licking me hehe. They remind me of mini rats...like personality wise. I mean i knew they were sweet but i didnt know syrians were this sweet. I just abosolutly adore them. I still am having trouble naming them. But i think one will be named teddy...yeah i know...really original *rolls eyes* but its cute...i dunno. Someone help with names for the hams!!

Congrats Joelle! They are adorable!! I love the black banded! :)

Definitely go for the bin cages. I have a 106 quart for my 2 female mice, and that is definitely enough space for a Syrian hamster! And it cost in total about 11$. :)

i will try melanie! But its gonna be rough cuz like i said before i dont have much floor space in here. But i can try...either way i can garantee both hams have huge cages!! :)

The good thing about the whole bin cage is coz they are really just storage boxes they are designed to be STACKED.

as to names? mischief and mayhem? trust me they will be lol Bill and ben? i'm not good at names lol

12-20-06, 06:30 AM 12-20-06
ooo i like those names. But I alread picked out a name for the golden one. His name is Squiggles! After the poor syrian the library at the school jeremy works at. He was so sweet. But some kid got him out of his cage and left him in one of the book shelves for about 3-4 days. When they found him he had coffee all over him and a few seeds. They cleaned him up and he died 2 days later. So this is in memory of him.

Now the black and white one...i dunno. I was thinking about bear or teddy but i have a feeling those are common names for hamsters lol.

12-20-06, 07:36 AM 12-20-06
I was playing with the hams and the black banded one is mean. He keeps trying to bite me. I picked him up and he started licking me then bite lol...little booger lol. So now i know his personality is a little brat.....hmmmm i still cant think of a name for him. But Squiggles is so precious. Hes so sweet and never does anything that might make me think he will bite hehe. Could the black one be angry i put him in a small cage??

12-20-06, 08:05 AM 12-20-06
He probably thinks that you sre food! It would be better if you washed your hands before you handle the hams! In fact they extinquish things by smell and cannot tell the difference between an apple and the hand that previously was holding it! Or maybe he is just a nipper! These hamsters bite just to show you how much they like you! some times they are small critters-great monsters!

what about China for the black and white one? isn't that where panda bears originate anyway? :p they're really cute. :D

ratbrat21
12-20-06, 09:15 AM 12-20-06
oh goodness i dunno. So many good names but none seem to fit the little critter. I dont think the black one meant to bite me to be mean. Cuz he was licking...i probably had something on my fingers that smelled good or something. My first gerbil nala use to bite....well nip all the time. It was her way of being affectionate cuz she was a sweet girl. Anyways...china is a good name...but it would fit a female hamster better....hmmm.....i could name him monster but i had a budgie named monster and i hate reuseing names.

THEY ARE SOOO CUTE!!! :lovestruc I want a hamster. Do you recommend me getting a hamster?

Can you post pictures of your cage?

ratbrat21
12-20-06, 01:17 PM 12-20-06
thanks. I dunno if i can recommed hamsters to you or not lol all depends on if you want that type of animal as a pet. And cages...well as of right now Squiggles is in the 10 gallon and the black banded one (no name yet) is in a smaller cage...next week or the week after im getting a big cage and a tank topper....or im getting something lol. Something bigger then what both are in now hehe.

Dwarf hamsters can be with other dwarfs...but if you only want 1 ham dwarfs are fine by themselves also. Syians MUST be kept alone and they get bigger then dwarfs of course. Syrians are also known for being nicer then dwarfs although jasmine my little dwarf gives me kisses hehe.

ok after a few days of thinking i finally came up with a name for the other ham. Well first you all know i named the gold one Squiggles. Well the black banded is such a sweetie. He licks and is just really friendly in general. Although both are still in the jumping stage i guess since they both jump lol. Anyways the black banded ones name is Dragon or Draco for short. Now please tell me if im wrong.....i totally looked this up and this is what it said. Dragon is a constellation and Draco is the short form of that word?? Anyways either way his name is dragon. Just thought i would let everyone know. Also i found a cage. But all the cages i found were to small for syrians. So i found one that possibly 2 gerbils could fit in. That way each of the syrians then can have a 10 gallon....and yes when they get bigger i plan on getting tank toppers. I was thinking about the bin and discussing it with hubby. And our floor space is so limited there is absolutly no room for large bins anywhere. But i am still thinking this through. Anyways i just wanted to let you all know i named both hams.

Aww cute! They look like they will both be long haired, but who knows. Cute names, too! I love the name Dragon for the black and white.

You have a black banded and a golden banded. :) The banding on the golden isn't great, but its banded alright.

Excuse my ignorance if you already said this, but what are the sexes of them again?

thanks! I like the name dragon as well. Hes super sweet and really friendly. Squiggles isnt as friendly and wont take treats from my hand but i figure thats cuz 2 different personalitys. And they are both males. In fact since i gots money now hehe i plan on going out and getting another cage. That way poor little dragon isnt in such a small cage. Anyways thanks everyone!!
