I have three of these "purple parrot" fish given to me as a present. I've only seen them in Asian pet stores. I think they are hybrids and are specially bred from cichlids but am not sure. They are generally orange but have variation in intensity. I have a light orange one and a red-orange one and a peach one. They can get agressive and they are growing FAST! How big do they get and what are these things??? Don't get me wrong. Their funny faces are adorable.

The fish your talking about is a Blood Parrot or a Red Parrot or a Red Blood Parrot the industry uses all those terms.
The get anywhere between 8" and 10".
They are a hybrid of 2 cichlids.
I would consider them one of my favorite fish. Well mannered and entertaining.
They also have Parrots called cotton candy Parrots. These parrots are very similair except that they come in true purples, greens, blues, etc...
Cotton Candies are more expensived do to importantion I suppose. (and from experience anything with color can be more $$$ people will pay it).
