I am really happy right now, i already have one dog, Murphy, a year and a half old, and i think ive finally convinced my parents to consider getting another dog! Murphy is a golden retriever, and hopefully we get a German Sheperd as our next dog. If all fails with GS, another golden retriever will be on the list. If anybody has a preference on either type, post or just say whatever you wnat.

I just suggest you read up on both breeds, what they require physicaly and mentaly. where would you get the dog? With a German Shepherd Dog, would you be looking into a working line?

Both are smart breeds, but I think Goldens are more easy going. They are one of the breeds that develop lymphoma more often than others, about 1 in every 3 dogs will get cancer of some kind with GRs 75% will die. so thats somthing to consider with two.

I didn't know one in three got cancer.. wow. My parents first golden died of cancer.

1 in 3 of all dogs, but yeah. Its extremely sad. I was reading on the NCCF, national canine cancer foundation.

they are both amazing breeds. when I was admitt to the hospital, there was a service dog, and he was a golden. most well behaved dog i'd ever seen.

In your personal prefence, which would you get and why?

I would get a Labrador. They're such greattt family dogs and you could easily adopt one.

My neighbor has a German Shepherd and a Labrador (they're both adopted! :D) and the Labrador is THE BOMB!!! HE FREAKING ROCKS MY SOCKS!!! I LOOOOOOOVE HIM!!! He's the one I was talking about in your other thread that would jump on my shoulders and try to lick my nose. I FREAKING LOVE HIM!!!! The Shepherd is great too!!! But I kind of love the Labrador better...actually...I think I love them equally. Lol...not much help.:grin:

Oh, I would go with either a white, black or black sable GSD. They are smart, and quick to learn- important as i'm interested in training pro. Also well known for police work, and I think they would make for good cadaver dogs. I like working dogs, and hope to get into it when i'm a bit older. They are loyal, and well have courage? if thats right, and I find that highly apealing.
