Hi Jon, First of all i wouldn't put salt in the water but it sounds like a fungal infection. If you go to a good fish shop and explain what is wrong they should be able to tell you what it is and they sell medication to put in the water. I would do this and when the fish has completely recovered i would definately get him some company as fish otherwise have a very boring life and are always more active when housed with other fish, but make sure there is enough room for them all, the fish shop will tell you how many orandas can live in a 60l tank. Try adding live plants to the tank and a place to hide like a terracotta flower pot on its side for them to hide in as fish like some places where they feel secure and your flat sounds quite hot so it would makeit shadyer and so cooler in that place.
