Just a way of bringing all the great ideas together that people have on here. Like if you were opening a pet / supply business what would you do and such.

I am going to get free puppies and kittens out of the newspaper and from craigslist. Then they will be speutered and vetted and adopted out. I won't charge rediculous prices either just enough to cover the vet bills and their stay in my store.

How much would they cost?

scratch that..I just realized what you said.

What other things are you going to have in your store?...anything different that stores nowadays don't do?

I opened up a saltwater/freshwater fish, reptile, small animal petstore about 2 years ago in Cambridge, Ohio.

I has been very fun, but I regret ever opening it. Unless you have a ton of money to really get into it, it isn't worth it in my opinion.

We live in a fairly good sized town, and we are the only pet store in town, so we figured we had a shot. We were the first within 2 hours drive to offer saltwater fish (which is our biggest market right now)

After 2 years, we have tons of references about how we carry the best fish around, everyone that comes here raves on how clean our store is, and how great our fish are. And how healthy our reptiles and small animals are.

We get all of our birds and small animals locally, we don't order them. (Except ferrets) We raise our own mice and rats. This seems to work very well, as we have never had a problem with unhealthy animals.

We go to reptile shows and hand pick the lizards and snakes, that way we know it's friendly, and we know it's healthy.

We rescue dogs & cats off the street, we sponser the dog pound, and occasionally bring dogs from the pound here to adopt out. We also rescue reptiles.

We still stuggle to get by.

Good luck if you decide to open!
