I want to see how big everyones cities/towns are! So everyone look up the population of your city/town and put it here! (Unless its so small, you don't even have to look it up! lol).

My city is the 6th largest in California, and the population is: 471,479. I find my city SOO huge, it would take about an hour to drive straight through from one side to the other. There are parts of it I haven't even been to. Luckily, I do know how to get around, but I am sure people just driving through (Since there are no tourist spots really) get lost!

To anyone who likes reading:

We are also known as the "Raisin Capital of the world" lol.

I've lived many different places but the two longest stays were fair lawn, NJ and Gladewater, Tx.

I am now in Franklyn township, NJ the population here is 50,903 as of 2000... but it covers a very large area, there was no information on the town's population, just the township's population which includes more than the town that i live in.

Gladewater, Tx is 6056 as of this year, which is larger than when i lived there.

Fair Lawn's was 31,408 as of '05.

I've lived in Manassas, VA my whole life. The population was 35,135 in 2000, so I'm sure it's gone up by then. What I really love about my city is the history behind it. We got the Civil War, w00t! And we gots our nice, big battlefield that's great to take a tour of, or just walk around in, especially if ya take a dog! Here's the link to Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manassas%2C_VA

Here's some pictures of the Battlefield, just because I'm bored. Oh, and I didn't take these by the way, If you want to see more, just go to g o o g l e . c o m / i m a g e s and type in Manassas, VA Battlefield, or something along those lines.

Anyway, this first picture is a memorial to Stonewall Jackson:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c178/daddysgurl9245/StonewallMemorial.jpg

This is the Stone House, but I can't exactly remember what it was used for. Pretty sure it was a hospital though.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c178/daddysgurl9245/StoneHouse.jpg

The last one is a picture of the fence that outlines the whole entire battlefield.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c178/daddysgurl9245/Sbattlefieldfence.jpg

Hmm, they wanted to build a mall on the Battlefield, but thank God they said no.

Hmm, they wanted to build a mall on the Battlefield, but thank God they said no.

I think its so stupid when people want to take away historic buildings, etc to expand what we already have enough of!

Our down town area, I read, is one of the oldest in the U.S that still has the original buildings! But they are starting to tear those down and rebuilding, and adding other things..and it makes me mad!

As of the 2000 census, The Woodlands, TX population is 55,649.

Why the heck would they put a mall on a HISTORIC battlefield??? Thats stupid.

And here. Our town is called The Woodlands, known for its many trees. Well, now its pretty much the building lands or concrete land. They keep tearing down trees and everything so they can make more shopping centers, restaurants, etc. Like we already have enough! We've got all we need here and we are fine. It makes me mad.

I'd give ANYTHING to live near the beach. I stayed in a beach-side hotel once and you had to walk like, two feet, to get down to the beach and the pier was about a mile off. It was really nice. Now, living there would be a much better story. :p

I live in Toowoomba, largest inland city within Australia

Approx population 120-150,000

We are known as the garden city...though due to severe drought and water restrictions the gardens have mostly been replaced with coloured bark around the city

The city of Toowoomba sits on the top of the Great Dividing Range

I live right outside of the "Gateway to the West": St. Louis. We were recently given the 'priviledge' of being awarded the title of "Most Violent City in America". It seems like the first 5-10 minutes of the news everyday is just covering the people that have been murdered that day. I actually live on the IL side, closer to East St. Louis. According to Wikipedia, the population of St. Louis metropolitan area, which is part of where I live, (which includes locations immediately outside of the city) is 2,786,728... the 18th largest in the US.

I live on a small group of Islands, 28 miles South West of Lands End in the UK, next stop from us is America. We get all these trans Atlantic rowers and Blue Ribbond record breaking attempts finishing in our waters, so they all make it to St.Marys(the largest island, I like to call 'the metropolis'! LOL!)
Anyway, population of all the islands (over 100 islands and rocky outcrops)is 2000, only 5 Islands are actually inhabited, with the smallest being Bryher with a population of about 60!
I just looked at the wikipedia page about us, and to be quite frank, it's not totally correct, so I won't post it!
I can trace my family living on the islands back to the mid 16th century, so we've been here a while!
There is an abundance of wildlife here, seals, seabirds, scilly shrews(native to these islands only), I could go on forever!
anyway here are some pics
Ariel view(not all the islands though)

We have had shipwrecks here over several hundred years, 1707 a fleet hit rocks 'the association' being the flag ship, Sir cloudesley shovel was washed up here, but later exhumed and buried at westminster

what is the cost of living over the earned wages??? is it expensive to live there with not a lot of wage? i just might move there like seriously.

janie36
03-29-07, 03:24 PM 03-29-07
That's a good question missy0ul0ve, it is slightly more expensive to live here than on the mainland, but there is always seasonal work, and most people either tie flowers(not as good as it sounds) or go on the dole for the winter, but some are lucky(like myself) to have all year round jobs. It is very easy to find your way in over here and make a sure footing.
I've been very lucky i worked in shops for a few summers and went travelling in between, then I became an instrumental teacher and had to settle down a bit more. I love it and feel pivileged to live here. It does have it's downfalls, as it is a tight knit community, but as long as you know how to keep your business, your business, it's no problem!:)

i know what you mean about that i lived in a small town in texas and everybody was in everybody's buisness it was like there was no personal life for anyone... the secrets were never secrets to begin with. yeah i know that sort of feeling. it sounds enjoyable though... aside from that lol.

when would you say is the best time to travel... i cant believe this but i am seriously thinking about it.... if i dont fall completly in love with it by visiting there then i will stop the madness lol but it is a very beautiful place, and fortunatly i am at a point in my life where i can just pick up and leave at any time..

where would you suggest staying and what type of places to eat too??

(if you dont mind my asking of course)

janie36
03-30-07, 10:13 AM 03-30-07
Well, summer is definately the best time to visit! The winter is a stark contrast! There are lots of guesthouses and several hotels, depending which Island you decided to stay on! There are half a dozen really good restautants, and then there are the pubs as far as eating out is concerned:)
Try this site, it might help, but I'll happily answer any questions you want to ask;)
