hey everybody,
I've bought a beautifull hamster two months ago, and just recently she started to produce some kind of squeeks, like she is sneezing. Since it would be too hard to explain the kind of noises that she makes, I will post you a link to a video so that you can hear by yourselfe. I'm really worried that she is maybe sick. But she acts normal like before. I even listened how she breaths and I haven't noticed nothing strange. Please tell me that this is ok. Thanks in advanced.

if she's not wheezing it might be a cold. have you had one recently? i think ham immune systems are weaker than ours, but a cold can be treated pretty easily i think by a vet, but can cause problems if left untreated.
does she make this noise constantly, or is it just every now and then?
cant use your link, im not great with computers! can you give a direct link to the video?
if you're worried you should see the vet, better to be safe than sorry. some vets wont charge you if they just look at them for 1 minute and the pet is healthy (my vet does anyway).
recently i thought one of my hams had been bitten by the other, and she was acting normally and walking around ok etc, but i could see a bit of blood. i took her to the vet and she'd had a rectal prolapse and had to be put down. moral of story = it's better to get something checked out if you are worried by anything, for the good of your precious little ham.
if you are unsure if it's a cold and want to help before you go to the vet (if you go), try to make sure she gets a little extra vit c. drops in the water are only good for this if the water gets drunk immediately, as vit c decomposes in water, and can produce harmful products. so if you use drops, change the water 10 minutes after adding, might seem like a waste but is better for your ham. vegetables are a good vit c source (in tiny quantities - dont want your ham to get diarhea). chemistry degrees actually come in useful occasionally lol.
lots of info, hope to see that vid soon, keep me posted on how she is
btw, what type of ham is she?

I can't access your links, but my last syrian hamster used to sneeze and make noises that sounded like a dog's squeek toy every now and then. Like maybe once or twice every few days. I knew it was normal because it wasn't often. If it's a constant think and he does it like all day, maybe he has a cold and should probably see a vet. But if it's not often, it could be nothing.

hey ppl, thanks for the replies. I was thinking to see a vet, but here in my town I seriously doubt that he would knew anything about hamsters. Sorry for bad link, here is another one:

As for the hamster species, I really don't know. I know that she's not syrian. I have some pictures of her which I will post later so if you would like, you can help me to identify her :) You have video now, so I hope things will be clearer. Take care.

Are you sure she's not a Syrian, she looks like a Syrian to me!!
My advice would be to get her checked anyway, one of our hams was making little noises similar to that and was always wiping at his face, so I took him to the vet straight away and he actually had a cold! Quick injection, two days later, right as rain:)

good luck at the vets! hope he can tell you something :) and your ham looks like a syrian to me too, lol, but pics of the face would identify it definitely.

hey everybody,
I've been busy with my fax lately so I haven't had time to post anything. I went to see a vet. He told me that if she eats and moves regular than probably everything is ok with her. Only thing I have noticed is since I bought her a house, she spends much more time in there. Everything else seems normal. Here are the pictures of my beauty that I have promised :) maybe we will now resolve a mystery about her species :) take care

yes she's a syrian. you can tell by the shape of the face and body - generally if you can see feet when a hamster's on all fours, it's a syrian. wit a dwarf you can only see a tiny tiny bit of feet usually! you dont often see that colouring in dwarfs, and i've never seen a manderin dwarf without the dorsal stripe!
she's very pretty!

Well I hope she's ok. My hamster has had a cold before, but her sneezing didn't exactly sound that squeaky. Just keep an eye on her, and keep us updated.

Wishing you well,
~Katie
