I dont know if its just me, or if he doesnt like being handled, or if something happened when he was younger, but for some reason Chino does not like being touched. I petted him, and he jumped and started running around like crazy. Then when i tried picking him up, he jumped out of my hand and started running away from me. I tried feeding him out of my hand, and thankfully hes not afraid of that. I also stopped putting my hand in his cage and let him come out on his own. Any tips?

He's still new to his surroundings and is still afraid. You should leave him alone for a little longer. Feeding him food from your hand is a good idea though.

Give him time! You just got him! He still needs time to get to know you. I find that not too many Syrian hamsters like being pet anyway. ;)

some syrians are really cuddly and snuggly but dont like being picked out of their cage (territorial thing)... try scooping out of cage in a toy or toilet roll tube or something. i'd do it in the bath tho so he can't do a runner lol

lol my syrian likes beig picked out of her cae but not cuddled or stroked! she comes out to play for hours every night now in her ball (even though her new wheel arrived today), she sits on the highest ledge and begs to come out when im near! i put her back in her cage every 30 mins for a drink, dont worry!
so how is chino doing now?
some hams just take longer than others, one of my dwarfs hated me for 3 months, but she's started begging to come out and climbing all over me now (finally!). patience works wonders! chino will love you playing with him soon!
