restless ham

hiya

my new syrian called ferret is doing well, very healthy and active etc. i have her out for around 4 hours a night (with breaks of course for water and food etc) but it's not enough! she wakes at about 7pm, and is constantly begging to come out! she doesnt like being cuddled but will let me pick her up and hold her fine, but i have to go to bed at around 11 as i have early starts at uni this term! when i put her back to bed she sits up begging to come out, but i have to sleep! i feel bad!
in her cage she has a big wheel, an igloo, a wooden bridge to climb and hide under, a number of tubes to chew and play in, naw sticks and cardboard boxes.
can anyone suggest any other toys to entertain her when she has to be in her cage? im thinking about attaching another bin cage for more room.
also, when i have her out, she is usually in her run about ball, i would like to have her out more without it, but she escapes off my bed (she outsmarts me lol) and then nibbles on wires under my bed where i cant reach her! anyone know how i can stop her nibbling on these specific things? because of the building i cant remove some of these wires (stupid student housing), and landlord wont be happy if they're destroyed! maybe bitter apple spray?
one of my dwarf hams is allowed free roam of my room as she has never nibbled a thing, but i dont want ferret to be electrocuted!
she is 10 weeks old and has been with me for 1 week!

You could always get a bird net, a big fish net or butterfly net to give you better reach when she pulls the slip.

You could coat(don't get electrocuted yourself)the wire coverings with some spicy, foul tasting sauce. Just don't do anything that would burn your house down.

hmm.. well when my hamsters restless and i have to go to bed, i usually attach a playpen to his cage with a tube, and then he can come out and run around, and then go back to his cage when he wants to. Also, its good because he cant escape from that when im sleeping. And yeah, any bitter tasting sauce you should coat on the wires.

what kind of playpen is that? i've been looking on ebay atc but the pens there look like they would hold a dwarf ham, but a syrian would be able to climb out unattended! do you have any pics of yours, or where did you get it from?

Hmm I could try getting a pic of it for you. It is pretty high so i dont think your ham could escape, cept mine did once when i put his wheel in and somehow he climbed on top of it and almost managed to fall off the top of the playpen, but luckily I was watching..

Most Syrians can easily escape those play pens IMHO they are pretty pointless things for syrians because you cant leave them unattended!

How about getting a simple run around ball for your ham? Then it can run where it likes and sniff what it likes through the ventilation holes. They dont mind what colour it is as they have such poor eyesight anyway!

lol she has one of those, she runs in that for about 4 hours a night (with drinking breaks)! i mean after i go to sleep, as am having to sleep pretty early at the moment and she still wants to come play!
i think she would escape from that pen as well, she's quite the climber, and escape artist!

You might want to try one of these. I don't know though, she might be able to chew through it.
