hiya

so ferret's started to become more destructive, she actually started to destroy my diary, my tobacco pouch, my clothes etc when she was out today. i find this amusing, doesnt bother me in the slightest, but she's starting to nest more. dont know if it's coz i just cleaned her out or maybe she's (please no god) pregnant. have had her for 8 days, and while she was always big, she's now becoming more pear shaped.
im probably being paranoid, but wanted some opinions just in case! the pet store she came from is pretty good, but mistakes are possible. have tried to inspect her nipples, but she's pretty long-haired and she objects to being undignifiedly rolled over, so cant see anything.
she's been collecting food and hiding it (it gets scattered around her cage, not in her bowl) more. is it a problem that when she removes excess poop that gets tangled in her fur (dont worry its completely solid) she throws it into one of her food storage places?
she's been much more active lately. photos are found here http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w46/pinkpink33/?start=0
the new ones are the untitled ones at the top, there are week old pics of her further down, the only syrian on there is ferret!

please let me know what you think!

thanks

update- so ferret woke me up after 4 hours, as she was re-organising her cage! she had knocked her wheel over and dragged it to the other side of her cage, picked up and emptyied her 2 litter trays and placed them with the wheel, and has now removed the saw-dust from the now-empty part of her cage.
i put my hand in to get her out, as when she saw me she ran up to the side begging to come out and she bit me! im used to being bitten by mitsy, but ferret hasnt ever bitten before, my hands didnt smell of anything and she's been awake all night. why so moody???

Hmmm... she does look like she has a bit of a belly but its hard to tell! Hopefully she is just a 'good doer'!! and is chunky and not pregnant! Either way, i would keep a very close eye on her, not let her run loose in your room and be careful how you handle her!

I wouldnt let her loose in your room just in case, if she is pregnant then you dont know how far along she is, last thing you want is her having babies any old where!

If you get some new photos of her stretched out (not sitting) like walking... but take the photo from above, birds eye view, it will be easier to tell :)

Perhaps weigh her too and then weigh her again in 2 days and see if the weights gone up :)

i will wiegh her - excellent idea! its hard getting a pic of her stretched out as my camera shutter speed is terribly slow (must buy new cam with student loan lol) so she's usually gone by the time it takes the pic!
i figured with the handling, so i've been letting her walk into her ball in her cage, and then onto me from the ball, so i wouldnt hurt her somehow if she is.
i doubled the size of her cage by stacking another bin cage on top and connecting with tubes, and gave her a shelf to climb on, which she's now changed into a nest underneath, as it's a lot bigger than her igloo. which i find weird,as hams normally like enclosed spaces!
i guess i'll know for sure in another week anyway, as the gestation period is 18-20 days yes?
thanks for the idea :)

I cross my fingers she is not pregnant! The cage now must be looking great! Any pics of it? And i myself found out that not all hammies like enclosed spaces! My dwarf ww, Stahti has been sleeping out of her "house" for at least 4 months now! She prefers to make a nest under her wheel!

this has pics of all my hams and their homes :)
am hoping not too, she's far too young for it to be safe, and god knows how id find homes for upto 20 syrian babies! going to do some research in case she is on how to help if she has probs during birth, being as she's probably not fully grown yet. already researched care for her and poss babies.
one of my dwarfs makes her nest under her wheel too lol. but ferret has always slept in her igloo! she spent last night making a massive larder in the corner of her cage, shredding EVERYTHING in her cage to protect said larder, and is now sleeping in front of it in the open, maybe protecting it lol!

I don't know how many holes are in the bins, but you might want to try putting more in the sides of them.

She may possibly be trying to make a ladder to the top to near closer to the airholes.

there's loads of holes in the sides of the bottom bin (which is where she's nesting) and loads in the lid of the top bin. she has a shelf in the bottom one that she can easily reach, which would be higher. she doesnt try to climb up this pile (her food pile is now enormous lol), but nestles in the tissue as low down as she can get, so that it covers her completley. she's never cared about the paper or shredding i've given her before, she always pulled it out of her igloo and then slept inside on the sawdust. so is weird. i am watching...
