Ive made zukes cage bigger by adding a bin onto it. We used a metal circle heated it on the gas ring and it made a realy neat hole.
He's exploring it now, he needs some more toys.. is there anything else he needs?

the whole cage ( i might add another bin soon)

the tube he use's to go into the bin.
NOTE: i used carefresh when patch was alive and when he died the petshop woman got rid of it as i was the only person who bought it but now shes got me some on order so ive had to use woodshavings for now.

i like the setup :) i used to have that super pod and 2 of the kidney cages connected for one of my dwarfs, but i hated taking that triangular cage apart and reassembling lol! now they all have bin cages!
is this cage for a syrian? i just changed mine today, with 2 of those sized bin cages stacked, i have the same wheel too! same colour and all!
lol i have so much rotastak in my wardrobe there's no room for clothes anymore!

i hate taking the triangluar one apart, but i like it in a way because i can clean it better.
I got my silent spinner wheel yesterday, i KNEW i would get a colour that i did not want (just my luck)
i like this store: www.ukpetsupplies.co.uk i got my sielnt spinner from, its great service.
can i see pics of the new bin cage then ?! :D
my room is tiny and now the hamster has more room than me!

Maybe you could add a container with sand bath and a couple of paper roll tubes! My girls love to chew on them! And, excuse me for the silly question, but where is the water bottle?

We used to have huge rotastak set ups for our Ham bams, but it took hours to clean them all(that was with two of us doing it).

We bought new houses, made our own shelving(didn't like the shelves they came with) and now we're all happier:)

Have never tried bin cages, but they look good if you have the floor space.
I like your idea of how to make the perfect sized hole for the tube:)

Kokkiniklosti
If you look really carefully at the right hand side of the triangle pod you'll see a little nozzle:)
All rotastak comes with attatchable bottles, that slot in one of the holes that a tube could go through:)

pinkpink; I love your cage its cool!
how did you cut the holes in your bin? the same way as i did?
Do you always leave the lids on the bins?
i want one of those igloo's for zuke, what size is it?
sorry but everytime i look at your cages i end up copying something like the silent spinner i did! and im going to get one of those wooden bridges too.. i hope you dont mind :D

lol no i want to hear of as many happy hams as poss!
didnt use the same way you did, my boyfirend suggested that but i couldnt find any tongs to hold the ring with! i drew around the tube i was going to use and used a boxcutter - took about 30mins per hole so that i wouldnt shatter the plastic!
i always leave the lids on my ferret's bin as she can climb out from the bridge (except when she's already out of course), but my dwarfs have the lid off while im home for better air circulation.
in my store they only have 2 igloo sizes, a realt tiny one for dwarfs and ferret's one - it's about 5" in diameter (just the round bit), but she has to curl up to sleep in it.
when i changed her cage i cut up a small dish rack thing, with a solid bottom and gaps in the sides, and cut out one wall, the turned it upside down to make a shelf. it's quite large, and she prefers to sleep under there now, possibly because she can stretch out and choose an end etc, so i would suggest one of these. they're about 60p from random cheap shops. she has an igloo on the top as somewhere to hide if she doesnt want to come out when i go to see her.
i will take some better pics for you of this shelf tommorow if you want?
i think what she loves best is that she has so many different things to destroy lol.
if people like my cages it makes me feel like im doing my little hams good :)
i usually just go to one of those random cheap stores or woolworths and find anything plastic or wood that i can cut up for her, they love the toy rotation!

thanks janie, i will try that in a minute :)

kokkin, do syrians like sandbaths? my dwarfs love them but i never thought ferret would, she seems too dignified to roll around in sand lol!
janie, that cage setup is enormous! was that all for one syrian? or did you have a group of dwarfs in there? i went crazy with rotastak on ebay, bought EVERYTHING lol, now i cant stand it and dont know what to do with it lol! put it in my local ad and no one wanted any :(

The first picture, the top three shelves were Binkles house, and the rest was Follys.
The second pic was all one set up for our female flip, but when we lost her, we rescued Scrabble, and it became his(set up differently).
We then got all our hams the housing you see in the third and fourth pics:)
I know what you mean about the rotastak, I've still got it piled up in the spare room, one day I'll resell it on eBay, it's just getting round to setting it up, taking pics etc:)
I hope Kokkiniklosti won't mind me answering the question you directed to her, but Syrians do like a sand bath, although 2 of mine just look at me as if to say 'don't you think we're clean enough' then promptly ignore it, the other two will dig around in it rather than actually roll around, but I figure if they're getting it in their fur, it must be doing them good.
Guinness (another rescue) loves just sitting in it, his coat has improved enormously since we've had him(he's a long haired syrian). The only thing is when he's had enough, he loves to use it as a toilet! LOL! Still, makes for easy cleaning :)

It's okay Janie ;) ! You said what i wanted to say! What i'd like to add is that although sand is a "shoud have" in a hamster cage, not all hamsters like it! Clarabell will just dig all the sand out and use the sand container as a food dish! Then she puts in there all the treats and food she has stuffed in her cheeks! But, as Janie said, as ling as the sand gets in her f=hair, it works for me!

i will giver her one later then, thanks :) she has litter dishes in 2 corners, as my dwarfs do (who are litter trained), i pick up all the soiled litter and put it on top of ham litter, and she empties it out and then hides food behind it lol!
she's kinda long-haired so hopefully his will help her, she spends so much time grooming herself lol, getting her feet in her mouth and everything.
should i be grooming her? her fur doesn't need cutting, it's about 2cm long i'd say, except for long white tufts around her back, and little fuzzy white long hairs around her tail. somehow i think she's object if i "combed" her!

ive been looking for hamster toys/hideouts and found theese ''jungle bungalows'' and they are on sale too. Does anyone know if a syrian will fit in one?
http://www.ukpetsupplies.com/Details.aspx?ProdId=2510&CatId=671&ParentId=671
you can get them in other animals too.

going by the measurements (which are, i assume, the outside) i'd say no, but you could always try? if it's too small you could use it for food, hiding treats etc. mice and gerbils are much smaller than hamsters, so they probably mean for dwarfs or tiny tiny syrians. your ham would probably like to chew on it though!

I had a hippo one of those, must say it really wasn't much use for any of my Syrians, I think they're better suited for Dwarf Hams:)

im just wondering the way u described the length of her hair. are you sure she isnt a he. b/c females hair doesnt usually grow that long even though its a longhaired.

04-23-07, 10:23 AM 04-23-07
lol yes, have gone through many a hamster sexing site with pics :) it's about 2cm from her skin, and the long fluffy tufts are about 1cm longer. so she's fluffy, but it doesnt hang or anything (except the long random tufts which do - which she seems to be getting less of now???), just lies like normal ham fur. there's a pic on page 3 of this thread that shows the fluffyness, and more on my photobucket account, link also on page 3.
