How long have you had her? And why would she be pregnant?

Sometimes pregnant Syrian hamsters don't even appear to be pregnant. I know my two girls didn't.

i've had her for 9 days 10 days now, i have no male hamsters in the house.
i'm worried as she has started acting jumpily, putting on weight (she looks like a pear), making a huge nest, and storing loads of food. she used to store food in various hiding places but now she has it all in one corner in her nest, and has hidden it under shredded loo roll. she used to sleep in an igloo but now she's made a nest in the open, in a corner. she's shredded everything in her cage (she has plenty of gnawing things and her teeth are fine), and has blocked up the tubing leading to the top part of her bin cage. she's also started to act weird, sometimes she's very energetic, but others she just sits on me, but objects if i try to touch her sides. she actually bit me too, i put my hand in her cage for her to come out and she just walked up and bit me. i wasnt near her nest or food! she also used to love her wheel and begged to come out for ours of play a night, but now she just wants to shred things and re-organise her food pile.
i guess maybe she was just settling in, but she is pretty regular usually, always getting up at the same time, always begging to play etc.
my pet shop (where she came from) is pretty good with sexing animals, and never has any mixed sex together, but mistakes are possible.
i looked at some pics online, and most look the same shape as her (of prego sryians), when seen from above stretching out.
so i am concerned, and keeping an eye on her. have not been near her nest, thought it best to leave her to it just in case.

I would advise treating her as if she were pregnant for the next 10 days :)

My Moo was still fairly young when she had her litter but she didnt give birth until Midday on the 21st day (so much for the 17 days then huh!?) but the interesting thing is that the two daughters that both went to Kat (TVR) both had two litters each i believe and both also had longer than average gestation periods!

This is Moo on day 17 I believe! This is the true meaning of Pear Shaped ;) She was absolutely huge and couldnt move by the time she gave birth! (which i watched her do and even filmed a bit of!!) but then again... she *did* have 11 babies! lol.

And a few hours after they were born...

I don't advise looking at the babies at all but my Moo was 100% tame already even though I hadn't had her too long and as she was a young bother, she wasn't stressy but more excited to the point where she would carry a baby out the nest when i put my hand in the cage to change her food and she would give it to me!

wow! she is not that big, it's mainly the behavioural changes im worried by though, and the frantic nest building!
i will continue being careful with her for a while then, i am letting her walk out onto me instead of lifting her so im not touching her stomach or sides. she's 11 weeks old, would she be able to be a good mum by then or should i stock up on syringes and kitten formula just in case?
i wouldn't touch the babies until 2 weeks when i would (hopefully) be able to clean out the cage, and see if she's ok with that, as i havent had her long and wouldn't want to upset her.
i do hope she's not though. i've found 4 homes for babies amongst friends (2 hamster lovers lol) just in case. babies are cute but i dont want my ham getting stressed and having to find homes for many babies :(
i cant believe moo brought her babies aout for you, that is the cutest! she must be so trusting!
did her birth go well? how long was it? did you have to help her at all? i have many just in case questions sorry!

Hehe, only took about half an hour from the first to the last i think, give or take a baby, she had them in the corner of her Bin Cage which is transparent and she had left a kind of window into her nest LOL. Didn't disturb her at all though.

All my hamsters have been very trusting! :) the males were all trusting because they were just... dim for lack of any better description but the females all had more personality. I could put my finger in any of my hams pouches to pull out stuff they probably shouldnt have eaten and stuff like that!

Moo was about 12 weeks old when she had her litter! Errr lot earlier than it was planned she was to be mated but there we go! Hamsters will be hamsters! Moo spends too much time out of her cage and likes it that way LOL

wow that is so trusting! when i check my hams' teeth when they're out, they run behind my pillow after and hide their food, like they think im trying to steal it lol!
no babies yet (or ever hopefully!)
