Storing food in tubes

Hey folks.well just like title says. why does my hamster store his food in his tubes? He has plenty of places to hang out/sleep/eat. But he keeps his stash in the tubes instead. Currently he sleeps in a space explorer made by habitrail,but apparently just likes his bedding in there but not his food. I was just curious why he does this. He ends up filling up the tube and he has to go down and up just on the one side so he get down to the cage part. He can go up the other side,to his 2 towers and extra snap-on wheel,which he does sometimes. But then when he wants to get to his sleepy spot,gotta go back down and up the other way since his tube is blocked. Should just keep dumping the tube everytime he fills it so he gets the idea? or is it ok since he does have two ways to get up and down,no chance of getting stuck in the tubes. He is a syrian hammy btw,and fits in the sam/animal planet tubes just fine! He loves em! He is more energetic and lots happier! Plus he is sooo much nicer now! In his old cage (wire) he was mean and would bite me alot. Since hes moved into his CT, so much nicer and i can hold him and play with him! I love it! Im sure he does too! Such a sweetie pie now! Ok thats enough rambling from me. Thanks for anyones advice i appreciate it alot. :p

he might feel it's a safe place to hide it where you, or predators, cant get it! my syrian stuffs up her tubes (she has 2 bin cages, 1 on top of the other connected via tubes) with sawdust, so that predatorscant find their way in her home lol. she removes it every night to play upstairs, so i wouldnt worry about your ham. he can remove it if he wants, it's probably just an ideal larder for him!

I have two cages connected with tubing(one cage has a door), because I have to keep one separate from the other two at night since she's a wheel hogger and likes to squeak at them for using her wheel(but they all used to hang out and play during the day..odd)...it's cute that at night, when I close the door to keep them separated, the two sisters clog the tube with tissue that leads to their other sisters cage :p

aww,so cute! im guessing more wheels would lead to them all wanting the same one, silly hams! when i had two of the exact same wheel for my 2 dwarfs, one would decide she owned both the wheels, so when pepper started on the other wheel, squeaky would run over and jump in too.
