How about a long haired beanie baby? They are adorable and don't poop much

Haha, Pandapita! I like. I like. But hey, don't scare this one off just yet. Let us see what she's got first and how much we want to change! :D
Welcome to the board, MeOhMy. I will be the first to say, check out the local shelter. You will more than likely find whatever you want.
Now, down to the knitty gritty. Are you just looking for a fasion accessory, or are you actually looking for a pet. You've got to be specific. We REALLY care about our animals. Like the whole "Serious Activist" kind of care.
Let us know more about you and what you want please so that we don't jump to conclusions and assume too much. The people here do do that and are well practiced. Good luck and stick around!

Check your local shelter and rescue, petfinder.com. Is it you just want a small dog, or you want a dog to carry around all day? If you want a dog to carry around all day, that is EXTREMELY unhealthy for the dog.!

Hello... do research different dog breeds... here's afew ideas on some smaller dogs:
Shih tzu
Maltese
Yorkshire Terrier
Miniture poodle
Bichon
Pomeranian
Pug
Dachshund
Chihuahua
There is many many many other different types of dogs... check out different shelters as they also might have these breeds available, or mix breeds of them.

Miniture poodle
Miniature poodles are actually not small, they are medium sized.
Toy poodles are the small ones ;)

I wouldnt recomend a breed. I would recomend you go to your shelter, there will most likely be a small fluffy mix there. :D

I agree. :)
Shelters are the best place to go for animals. And if you truly desire a specific breed...there are sooo many rescues designated to that breed. :)

Basset hounds stay short, but their body length gets large. They are like big dogs with small dog legs ;). They don't get too huge though! They are medium sized dogs.

LOL here you go hon. Bassets are prone to obesity so unless you are willing to keep that dog fit i'd keep looking. oh and you have to keep those ears clean, and have a lot of paitence as they are stubborn.

tell me, what are you looking for in the dog besides size?
how much maintenance are you willing to deal with?
how much training can you commit to(toy breeds are usually a bit harder to house break)?

I am looking for a loving puppy, that i can call a family member. A breed that will listen proberly and will love me unconditionly.
how much maintenance are you willing to deal with?
As much as it may take. I wouldnt like a toy poodle because to me they are needy. But i am willing top groom, feed and take care of all the needs!

I will be bringing the dog to puppy classes. And I will dedicate my time to the puppy. I work at home so i will be there all day with her/him/

I would recomend a shit- zu. We have a shit zu mix, and he is great. He is about 20 pounds, but he is a little heavy (we are working on it) and the breed dosen't get to big. They are active when they need to be, but they are also lap dogs. I do not know if they are small enough to be "purse puppies" but I wouldn't carry him in your purse, get a leash and let him walk. They do require grooming every so often (as I understand)

I would say mayube a pomeranian,
they are very pretty, long haired, but from wut i heard they can be high maitnence ( dont really know never owned on myself)
or a shiu tzu is always a perfect option.

thats wonderful.
some breeds I think might work.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (http://www.akc.org/breeds/cavalier_king_charles_spaniel/index.cfm)
10-18lbs full grown.great companion dog, intelligent and do well with training. sometimes said to be naturally well behaved (although I can say for sure). They aren't a dog to be left alone all day.
http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/breedinformation/toy/images/ckcs.jpg
Papillion (http://www.akc.org/breeds/papillon/index.cfm)
about 8-10lbs full grown. Devoted companion dog, good for smaller homes/families. Daily grooming is prefered depending on cut.

other toy breeds (http://www.akc.org/breeds/toy_group.cfm)(some other good choices)

I like the sound of the pomeranian and the papillion,
So maybe ill look at some shelters for them, or even just a breeder if no luck at the shelters,
I wouldnt mind a mix, im not allinto pure breds as long as i get a friend, family member, and a obediant dog im ok with it.

Good to hear that you are open to mixed breeds since there are so many out there. I dislike it when people say they want a certin breed of dog (purebred) when they don't know for sure if it'll work for them, they just like the looks of a breed and there are so many mixed breeds in shelters that fit their criteria. I've only had a couple purebreds in my life and while the Blue Tick Coon Hound I had was the greatest (poor boy died of cancer because he wasn't neutered) the basset hound I had would bite if you didn't give him his food fast enough.. Cutest thing though, he howled at you when you called him fat. All my dogs have been rescues and they are the best.

basset hounds are wonderful dogs... as I'm around two of them right now all the time... they are such sweet dogs too, and amazing with children. They do get pretty long.. and heavy.. so, I wouldn't be carrying one around lol...
I have 3 shih tzu's as well... they are such caring animals. They think they're human even at times! But they do need plenty of grooming and are sometimes tricky to house train.. but it can be done!! hehe

I have to recommend dachshunds. They are great dogs! Mine are not around children, but Harry has been with me since I was 7 and obviously did great with me. And our aggressive dachshund Hannah (No longer with us) was with us since she was a puppy, and I was 2 years old..and did fine. (People tend to think Dachshunds are horrible with kids). And Harry has been around April (Dogluver)'s nephew (3) and he did wonderful.
They can be stubborn, but with patience and time can be trained.

we recently fostered a HW+ doxie for a short time, I couldn't believe how muscular and heavy he was! he was amazingly sweet, and tolerant(our dogs are hyper). I would love to own one now, there is nothing sadder than a dachshund face. 17lbs of lap dog.

Min-pins are wonderful. They think they're regular guard dogs, and come in a variety of colors and sizes.
They are VERY smart, but also have an attitude of their own.. which is good... no one wants a dog without personality. They are good with children too.
